Guest guest
Query: Preamble: Ok YES this could be considered a rather odd topic and I did try to google first AND I would highly suggest that no one does use the word " urine and shower " in a google search, just in passing and for good reason. Yikes. I was informed one day many years ago (name left out to protect the innocent ex Brit military type ) that one should urinate on ones feet while showering. Yes, I know it does seem an odd question but here is what got me thinking ... I did read somewhere in mens health magazine or soldier of fortune ... I can't exactly recall, but it got me pondering that the salinity and the PH of urine actually could discourage fungal growth ... so it does make for some logical rationalle and in this recent artical it stated statistically over 80% of people actually do urinate in a shower .... well me being a the conformist I of course, well, no picture painting intended NOR POLL is suggested, thank you one and all in advance. Any thoughts on this is it myth or could it have some science behind it ? The peviso being if one does not have some type form of UTI to begin with and urine is sterile in most cases. Some topical ointments have UREA in them and Birth Control pills are made from pregnant mares urine from horses, just one of those things that just popped into my head, and most sincere apologies in advance to the sensitive types. I am aware of the current medical treatments for foot fungus .... so thanks. cheers signed the Moose " Person " to be politically correct to DONN et All. Guest guest
Wilf, That particular rumor has been around for a bit. There is some truth to it, but not much. Concentrated urea has been used as a treatment for tinea pedis at times in the past, but straight, fresh urine is probably not sufficient to prevent or cure fungal infection. Somewhere in my library I have a raft of papers on the beneficial uses of both human and animal urine, but I'm at the Texas conference and can't pull that up at the moment. For for now try searching with keywords UREA, TINEA and PEDIS. Should provide something worth reading. You could also Google MEDICINAL URINE for some interesting (if unappetizing) returns. Cheers! Guest guest
Seems dilution and brevity would negate the effect of pH. It's sterile, but it doesn't sterilize. I dispensed miconazole cream (packaged for vaginal candida) to all of my fungal foot pts. I got strange looks from all of them but I never had one return. The preparations for feet just never seemed to work as well. From: Wilf Mackie <w.mackie@...> Subject: Re: Foot Fungus Prevention. Guest guest
Thanks all: The vast majority of my clientele on woodland fires and oilpatch would be of the male gender and seldom would I have miconazole cream available therefore the vinegar solution (no pun intended) would also fit nicely into the cultural homeopathic medicine treatments. Thanks for the suggestion of a government grant Mr. and your added confessions ;>) .... additional trivia: in the WW1 tannic acid from tea was used for burns, but please apply when cold. I have used this on sojourns into the mountains when packing of medical kit (sans sherpas) and where was weight consideration and when first degree burns were encountered, quite soothing in fact. cheers Wilf Re: Foot Fungus Prevention. --- Another thing I have found to work very well is 2 parts vinegar to 1 part water. This works really well with some of our guys who don't wear shoes in their native land. It is more of a homeopathic type treatment, but tends to work better than the prepackaged stuff. Hope this helps. .
Guest guest
Wilf, you may stop peeing on your feet now. It doesn't work. I cornered one of our dermatology people the other day about this (it's a teaching hospital, but nary a podiatrist to be found), and this is what he said: urea is the primary useful ingredient from urine that is used to treat " moccasin " tinea pedis. It's used in a 40% cream IN CONJUNCTION WITH an anti-fungal. The urea itself is not an anti-fungal, even in that concentration. It denatures proteins and softens the scaly skin so that the anti-fungal can be absorbed and kill the bugs. So much for the derm. Now consider routine lab results. With a 24 hour urine collection, the amount of urea found is typically about 70-80 mg/dl. As you can see, the concentration of urea in human urine isn't anywhere near the 40% required for softening the scaly skin, it's lack of anti-fungal properties aside. Far be it from me to tell you that you can't piss on your toes if you want, but it's not going to get rid of that itching. <g> LT Wilf Mackie wrote: > Query: > > Preamble: Ok YES this could be considered a rather odd topic and I > did try to google first AND I would highly suggest that no one does > use the word " urine and shower " in a google search, just in passing > and for good reason.
