Guest guest
Hi, Like Richie, I did a KBR stint in '06 and while it wasn't profoundly challenging, it was an exposure to a totally different working environment and really, a totally different job. I've been back home since last July and have been working part time for my old EMS service while I finish my degree (graduate in a month!). I was warned about quitting way back then but those fears proved empty as there were 6 vacancies in my service upon my arrival back home. When I told them i was looking to go part time for pocket money they begged me to come on full time as an FTO . . . so much for the warnings. After I have my degree I'd kind of like to go overseas for another go, but KBR would be my last choice. I'm not opposed to it and I know I could get on easily, but it seems like trodden territory for me. Problem is, these credentials I hear tossed about on this forum are not readily acquired in the US. I have ACLS, ITLS, PALS, GEMS, AMLS and Haz Mat Ops which is pretty much the standard US medic battery. I also have the in house KBR " remote duty medic " course under my belt but I can't imagine it has much pull. As for all of the occupational health and industrial stuff, I don't have any of it and have no clue where to get it. I'd be quite interested to hear from any US medics who have found their way into this market from where I am now. Of course, I'd also like to hear from any non-US medics who understand the reciprocity and credentialing issue from an American perspective Thanks . . . Cheers, Guy P.S. Hey Richie . . . i have some home made DVDs from over there with you in them. Send me an e-mail if you want copies. Have some good footage of you escaping a dust storm and also me shooting you with silly string. Some of you sleeping at your desk on Christmas too. Peace.
