Guest guest Posted April 30, 2004 Report Share Posted April 30, 2004 Indian, Western rock stars to raise funds for AIDS New York, Apr 30 (IANS) : For the first time, major music and film stars from India will join Western rock musicians for a special concert in Los Angeles to raise funds for the prevention of AIDS/HIV in India. Indian music stars Nitin Sawhney, Talvin Singh, Sonu Nigam and Karsh Kale will be joined by , Coldplay, Farrell, Branch, Macy Gray and Damien Rice for the " One Night in India " concert be held June 8 at ey Pavilion on the campus of the University of California at Los Angeles. The official website for the concert said it would be a non-profit event with proceeds directly benefiting the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and the American India Foundation. " This is an unprecedented cross-cultural affair designed to showcase the power of the Indian and Western entertainment industries in raising the world's awareness of the AIDS pandemic facing India, " said One Night Foundation co-chair Mark Porter. While artistes like Branch, Farrell and Macy Gray will appear on the stage at Los Angeles, and Coldplay will make remote appearances from other locations. The organisers said the event would not only entertain but raise money and awareness for one of the world's largest and neediest countries in this area. The event will be filmed and recorded for future release on DVD/CD and worldwide TV distribution. Tickets ranging from $25 to $500 will go on sale Friday. According to the concerts' organisers, India is second only to South Africa for people living with AIDS.
