That's why I was upset--plus it's a long way for Bri to have to walk while having an attack. Since he's in Middle School, it would be necessary for them to bring the inhaler to him. He has different classes during the day. Bri uses Albuterol for rescue. Guest guest
Sandy, Cassie is doing much better. They were very concerned at the school on her condition. Thank goodness I teach at that school and was able to ride in the ambulance with her. You mentioned that they (the school)would bring his inhaler to him if he is having difficulty with his breathing. Don't you think that would be a lot of wasted time? Maybe you should have him give some kind of code for him to let the coaches know and have him go to the nurse with a buddy or someone else. Cassie had to go to the nurse by herself during this last attack and that was brought up at today's update. Very risky to allow someone who is having any sort of difficulty go anywhere alone. She is now to go to the nurse's office with a companion. But, all other students are allowed to same " priveledge " . Anyway, thanks for asking and I hope doesn't ever have to go through such a frightening experience. Oh, and while I am thinking about it, what rescue medicine is on with his heart condition? Guest guest
I just want to chime in on the inhaler issues in a school setting. My son's doctor always signed a consent that allowed him to keep an inhaler with him at all times. In addition his running coach always had one in the first aid supplies as well as a portable nebulizer which I provided. Having a kid in the midst of an asthma attack walk to the nurses office is not only stupid it's dangerous! If your child can handle the responsability of carrying an inhaler without letting others use it, than you need to push the school and if need be the doctor to allow it. The coach of any team your child is on, should always have a back up inhaler in his first aid supplies. In addition if there is an away game, field trip or any school function off campus, the school employee in charge of the kids should be made aware of the medical issues and make sure he or she is prepared. Where ever the asthmatic kid is, there should be an inhaler no matter how minor or major the asthma is. Asthma attacks can happen any time any place even in kids with minor cases. Guest guest
Hi Belinda, I was wondering if you have requested that Cassie be able to keep her inhaler with her at all times.? Tucker had a lot of asthma trouble a couple of years ago & his teacher would make him walk to the school nurse with his inhaler in hand to get the meds done by her! I always thought that was dangerous! Here you have a child in the middle of an asthma attack & he has to make it all the way across the school grounds before he gets his relief meds when he has them right in his hand!? So, I went to the school nurse & told her that it was very risky to have him do that & it seemed like a waste since he keeps his inhaler with him in the classroom for that reason! She agreed! Now whenever he needs the meds for an attack he just lets his teacher know & uses it right then! It has really helped the situation! He is even able to take it on his own before P.E. like he is suppost to! It has also made him more compliant and his pulmo. is getting much better lung function on his tests. Maybe your daughters school would be willing to allow her to do it that way. Just a thought... Guest guest
I have had more than a few patients get stomach aches from the alcohol in tinctures. Could this be the situation? If so, with tinctures we just evaporate off the alcohol with hot water, and that virtually always solves the problem. Can you do that with a gemmo? Loreen Dawson, ND Sechelt, BC Family Practice asthma Greetings. I have a four year old female who presented to me with asthma a month ago. Onset was following a URI last winter. Mom is an NP and started her quickly on albuterol inhaler...but decided after needing the inhaler several times a day to try something different and they came to me. History of eczema as an infant, used steroid creme... You all know the typical story. So we cut out citrus and peanuts and I gave her drosera 30c for wheezing. HUGE improvement. A few weeks later I gave them viburnum (gemmo) for wheezing attacks and drosera plex drops. The girl is now complaining of stomach aches regularly which is totally new for her. Has anyone seen either viburnum or drosera plex cause stomach aches? Any idea why that would happen? Thanks for your input. P. Guest guest
Dr. says that after clearing up the asthma other problems could come up because the emotional component is not being dealt with. So, because the asthma has to do with being smothered and stomach has to do with stomaching issues. I would look for an emotional balancer like unda 6. Talk to the mother. But I would be looking at the dysbiosis as well. dianne asthma Greetings. I have a four year old female who presented to me with asthma a month ago. Onset was following a URI last winter. Guest guest
oh Poor Dawn, what gets into kids anyway? I have been having trouble with my asthma as well and have been using an airway clearance device that is my daughter's (she has cystic fibrosis). It is called a Therapep and it attaches to the neb. It helps move the mucus in your lungs. there are also other devices called the Flutter and Acapella you can google. Maybe ask your doc for one of these devices they aren't hard to do and help clear your lungs pretty well. love,

Guest guest
If you can source some honey that has been collected (produced?) locally, within 1-2 mile radius of where you live, that apparently sometimes shows great benefits. A friend of mine swears by it for her daughter's asthma. Guest guest
In a message dated 3/12/07 4:49:37 AM, sheltonlayne@... writes: Hi everyone I deleted our last SPAM message and had a question of my own. I kind of have been battling the flu since right after Xmas. I would get to feeling lousy for 4-5 days and start to feel better for 4-5 days. This pattern continued until I got really sick and came up with pneumonia like symptoms and was treated with some strong antibiotics for 8 days. I got somewhat better but still had lung congestion and tightness and pain in the upper lungs. My doctor then put me on an inhaler with albuterol. It has helped. I have been on that for 2 weeks. I am doing better, alot better, but I am not getting over this very quickly. Trust K is doing OK? List all other meds. The doctor thinks that I have had a mild case of asthma like condition for a long time. This leads me a couple of questions that I know has been a desire of a lot of us and that is to track information on our condition. I have or have had several reoccuring conditions some before diagnosis and some after. I had problems with kidney stones and gallstones before diagnosis and treatment of PA, since treatment I have not had any problems with stones. It is my unprofessional observation that these two problems are common in untreated PA. Maybe and maybe not? Another reason we need a good data base. I have sleep apnea and was diagnosised and treated with CPAP about 4 years ago. I was dianosed and treated for PA about 3 years ago. I believe that the treatment of PA helped lessen the severity of the sleep apnea but have not eliminated it. My doctors and I believe that I have the neurological type and not the obstructive type of sleep apnea. What is triggering you CPAP then. You breathing or does it do it on its own. Those with a neurologival problem need to have the machine drive the breathing is my understanding. My thought is that in many with salt retention the increase in venous pressure in the paraphrayngeal areas lead to the obstruction. The normal venous pressure is about 4 so it does not need to go up much, esp if one is fat, to occlude the airway and it does not need much pressure to overcome this one. We believe this because I use a very low amount of air pressure and even though I am a little over weight I have no signs of obstruction and the low pressure is so low that it would be unlikely that it would effect an obstruction. I personally believe that the air pressure and the CPAP just remind me to keep breathing. I read one study a while back that hinted at that high levels of aldosterone effect sleep and may damage the brain. That was only theory but seems to fit my case. I don't know for sure but I also believe that a lot of us have sleep apnea. So I am wondering, How many of us have asthma or asthma like symptoms? I guess I am just wondering if this is another common side effect of our condition? Why we need a good data base: Jeff?? I had all the other classic symptoms before treatment PA: Severe, migraine like head aches (one or two a month 25 years ago pregressing to almost 24/7 before being diagnosed and treated) Urinating 5-7 times a night Muscle cramps, charley horses Paralysis of the legs at times Fibermylagia type conditions, total body aches Extreme overall weakness and fatigue Mental dullness, depression, memory lapses and probably several more. I guess it does me good to review how I was and to put my life back into perspective. Life was becoming "not worth living" before, today it is very different. I take 75mg of Inspra 3 times a day and DASH like it was a religion (and nothing else) and I am doing quite well at least compared to my list above. Sorry Dont need your med list now. Thanx in advance on the asthma question, and I thank God for you all being here for me. I would not have gotten better with out you. I would recommend you have your Dr collect a 24 hr urine to measure Na and K to see how well you are doing on the low sodium. Randy <><May we all be DASHing!!!><> May your pressure be low! Guest guest
Randy, So sorry you have been sick, the flu is never any fun...odd to have it drag on like that tho... I agree, it would be helpful to have some sort of data base or table for symptoms. Could we just make an excel spreadsheet, that would certainly be within our 'computer capabilities'! Unless someone out there is more computer literate that I... I have never had any asthma or coughing (you're not on an ACE are you?). I am curious about your mentioning the migraines that you used to have and you said they became daily and 'since treatment' you've not had any...what treatment? Just the Inspra? I have daily headaches and migraines and also take Inspra, 50 mg twice a day. Guest guest
Hi Kim No ACE, I take 225mg Inspra daily, 75mg 3 times a day....for some reason it just works better for my stomache. I DASH quite religiously, I even count the 47 mg Na in a liter of water in my diet. Usually if I mess up on the diet I get some of the symptoms back. The most noticable is the return of the headache. It is quite immediate too. If I mess up bad enough on the diet I can get a headache in 45 to 75 minutes, it can take me a long day or even in to the second day get rid of it. My history of headaches is that I would get headaches (migraines) 3-4 times a year in my teens. At about 28 years old I started on a single BP med. The headaches were around 1 a month. As I got older I steadily had to take more BP meds. The headaches continued to get worse and more frequent. That is why about 3 years ago when I was diagnosed with PA I was 52 years old, taking 7 BP meds and the headaches seemed 24/7. Actually at that point I didn't know how bad the headaches were because I had learned to live under them so long. In other words I didn't know at that point what if felt like to feel good. Today I am doing better, much better. I still remain very sensitive to the headaches, I think other things can trigger them besides diet but diet is the number one. The worst ones I get now are infrequent and less severe than my mildest before. I guess my only advice and it comes from experience is to DASH and DASH strictly. I do eat a lot of rice, not really the rice diet but probably more than the DASH diet, I just like brown rice, always have. Also, OTC painkillers and even Rx painkillers only barely mask the symptoms of the headaches. I tend to stay away from them. Time and diet seem to be the only thing that really helps. I hope this helps and good luck, Randy <><May we all be DASHing!!!><>-- "kimsstay" <cornerstone@...> wrote: Randy,So sorry you have been sick, the flu is never any fun...odd to have itdrag on like that tho...I agree, it would be helpful to have some sort of data base or tablefor symptoms. Guest guest
i have had life-long asthma and have found advair to have practically cured my condition. it is an amazing thing, i wish that i had those drugs a long time ago. when i first started working out, i had a hard time doing cardio during my allergic seasons (spring, summer and fall) so i would concentrate on abs, floorwork and weights.... doing cardio as much as i could but stopping short of causing attacks. in fact, all of my cardio workouts were interval workouts back then... lots of amping up in intensity but backing off for easier periods of rest so that i didnt lose control of my breathing. running was a dream of mine... i never could! these days though, im alot better and am able to do all of the cardio that i want... my lungs are certainly much stronger and my endurance is much higher now. i can run for a little while, if i choose to... what a wonderful feeling that is! the point of this post is to suggest that you insist that your dr helps you! it does not sound like your asthma is being managed properly. it took me almost 40 years to find something that works right for me, so dont give up. :*carolyn. > On 8/7/07, *c_kleist* > > wrote: > The squats just kill me, I feel like I can't get > enough air and on bad days I feel like I'm going to pass out.
