Guest guest
Hi Laurie, I " low-carb " and my WOE is more similar to the South Beach Diet than any other (second close would be Protein Power by the Eades). My husband and I eat very well - simply by eliminating the " bad " carbs and enjoying the good ones. We eat more fats than South Beach suggests (butter, half-and-half, cream, lots of red meats). What this equates to is: breakfast often includes steel-cut oatmeal, and always a bowl of fresh fruit we eat whole-grain breads lunch for me typically includes an apple or another fruit we do not eat processed sugar, nor do we eat any processed junk foods (chips, hamburger-helper type meals, french fries, etc.) - but we eat pizza a few times a year! supper for us is often a piece of grilled meat, a large salad, and a vegetable dish we eat sparingly the starchy foods, like white potatoes, bananas, etc. Both Harry and I are of normal weight, our BPs are low (below 120/80), our cholesterol readings are quite good (my HDL is close to 100!). South Beach has a cookbook, the title is (similar to - I don't have it here) " 30 Minute Recipes " - I love this cookbook, lots of really tasty recipes that are quick and easy. For example, I recently made the creamed asparagus soup - which turned out to be fabulous - took us perhaps 15 minutes to make (we added cream to it, our " change " ). The SBD suggests starting out with a 2-week induction - essentially eliminate most carbs - which brings your blood sugar under control and eliminates sugar cravings - then it steps up the carbs until you find your " level " .... Let me know how you do on it - I think it's pretty good! Bonnie L Delk <delk@...> wrote: Is anyone trying the South Beach Diet? It seems like a very healthy one - yet actually working too..... I have got the book and read the whole thing, and trying it - the neat thing is I can feed my family the same stuff - as it is not so much a diet - as healthy eating - but does not seem like a *diet* either...... Anyone else have good/bad results with it? thanks! I send out REAL cards by 1st class postal mail for 70¢ Including the stamp!
