Guest guest
Hi Jerry; First of all there is such a thing called phantom shock. After they put in and test your icd, body remembers it and some how you get that same feeling when you are sleeping and it wakes you up that when you feel that thump. the only way to know if you got shocked is go get it checked. Good luck to you. Oh one more thing if you don't mind i don't know if you put that gambling commercial in your email or not but we try to keep it commercial-free here. Thanks for understanding. Guest guest
What is caliper? Can you explain? Jay Hello Hello Everyone I am a new member. My daughter Li Iee is 4 years old and is SMA type II. I would like to know if anyone of you have tried the physio treatment using " caliper " or not. If yes, what is the outcome ? By the way, is it true that the caliper must be tailored made only? Have a nice day ! Guest guest
Hi Karin, It sounds to me like you have very good questions already. I can't think of anything to add. My Sam (almost 7) was diagnosed as IgA deficient since he was about 2.5 yrs. old. Recently, we had more blood work done b/c he just keeps getting sinus/ear infection after sinus/ear infection, and we found out he's also IgG subclass 2 deficient. I know Sam's not considered CVID, but his IgM is fine, so I don't have the knowledge to say what they might call your son's immune deficiency. We're holding off on starting the IVIG for now, but may have to change our mind. By the way, I used to get IVIG (now I get it subcutaenously- which is easier for me), and it only hurt if I " blew " a veing (meaning that the stuff was leaking out of the vein into the surrounding tissue. If that happens, it was best for me to restart the IV unless I was right near the end. If I was near the end, then a warm wet washcloth helped ease the pain. Good Luck and keep us posted! Anne R. Guest guest
Welcome , I am so glad that you decided to join the group. You sure will get lots of help, advice, laughter and tears with this bunch. But believe me being young has nothing to do with needing this group. I have 5 children and have been a parent for 27 years but this group brings wisdom and information that you will never find anywhere else no matter how much research you do. I'm glad you joined. Hey guys, so am I. (glad I joined) I don't know what I would do without all you bunch of nuts!!! Guest guest
hi donna, welcome to the list. it's a good bunch of people with diversity in age that's refreshing. i'm 37 w/sma2. but 16 doesn't feel that long ago. at the time i dropped out of high school to get out of a nursing home a nd live on my own. i remember the social awkwardness of high school...the things that helped me be more confident: - being 95% in charge of my health care decisions by the time i was 15 - being in charge of my chores (shopping down the street when mom worked, and bossing younger sibs around - smile) - having other disabled friends both the same age and older living on their own to learn from - knowing mom wouldn't always provide my care, so learning how to teach it to new people - receiving the same parental lectures from my folks as my non-disabled sibs about sex, pregnancy, drugs, education and work ethic - going to summer camp - being exposed early to the idea of a disability culture and civil rights movement (check out the book " no pity " by joseph shapiro) the list goes on but i'm sure you get the gist. disabled peers and mentors are key...doesn't need to be same disability. cheers! alana At 10:26 PM 6/22/03 -0700, you wrote: >Hi, my name is Donna, I am a single parent with 2 teenagers - 18 year old >Joe and 16 year old . has SMA II.
