Guest guest
Hello, . Welcome. Glad you found us. I was freaked the first time our son went on meds too. It is not something to be taken lightly. I hid and cried, every day, for the first week he was on them. But then something miraculous happened. . They helped! And our son started to become himself again. Our son was off of his meds for a while but went back on them a year ago, after a BIG relapse. In our case they were absolutely needed to get his anxiety down to the point that he could do the therapy. In some cases they can go off of them and not need them after therapy. We are hoping for that, although he is afraid to ever go off of them again after relapsing so badly. Typically, the SSRI antidepressants are prescribed for OCD. Our son is on Celexa. Is your daughter making progress with the ERP? Does the therapist think that could be making her anxiety go up? I've read that can happen. It's great that you've found someone who specializes in the treatment of OCD. It can be hard to find them. Keep us updated on how it goes. Again, welcome. BJ > > Hello, > This is my first post. Guest guest
Hi , I have a daughter that sounds identical to yours. She is 12, high honors, well behaved, excellent kid, who has been diagnosed with anxiety. I know she has OCD also,(mild) but I have not brought her recently for another diagnosis. She is not on meds or in therapy, even though I know she could use it.She doesn't want to take meds because she has seen what her younger sister and brother have gone through. (I have been reading up on gifted kids who frequently are mistaken for OCD kids, and vice versa) She would definitely love to e-mail with your dd. I also have another dd(11) who is diagnosed with severe OCD and would also love to e-mail. I just mentioned my older dd to you first because she sounds so much like your dd. Let me know if you'd like her to e-mail Hugs Judy
Guest guest
Hi . My son belonged to that kid's group once. Sometimes it was talkative, other times not. He'll be 19 tomorrow (!) so haven't checked that group in quite a while. Maybe another parent here has a child near her age that's willing to email. I know I've seen posts on that in the past here and some have. To learn about OCD medications, visit the OCD Foundation website at http://ocfoundation.org Any questions you have after reading about them, we'll be glad to give our thoughts. Medicating is such an individual/family choice but it helps so many kids/adults with their OCD. And can help greatly with doing therapy. Sometimes the medication helps so much there doesn't seem to be anything to work on in therapy; so I think some have actually eventually lowered the dosage to see if OC behaviors pop back up enough to give the child something to work on! Others are just thankful for the help from medication and use it alone (no therapy). With effective therapy, they can learn " tools " to use to fight back against OCD, and sometimes medication can eventually be stopped and, with the insight and tools learned in therapy/exposure, many manage okay without medication; still others do better staying on. Severity differs for all and then, as we know, people are so " individual " as to medication, therapy, OC behaviors (and so similar!), etc. There's no *one* medication for OCD to work for all, unfortunately, so the trial and error can be nerve-wracking while trying out the meds. But my son's first (and only) medication, Celexa worked fine for him. Some kids have had to try more than one. Your daughter is definitely NOT alone in having OCD! single mom, 3 sons , 19 tomorrow, with OCD, dysgraphia and Aspergers/mild > > Hello, > This is my first post. Guest guest
My son has looked at the kid's list but said he'd rather talk about other things than OCD...he just does not want to talk about it and barely talks about it in therapy. It is more a subject to avoid for him. I would think kids who post are probably more open to treatment which is a good thing. nancy grace -- In , jtlt@... wrote: > > > > I haven't posted in a long, long time, but I still see the posts that come > across. Guest guest
Hello Carolyn! I'm sorry you have had such a very hard time of it. And I hope that your exhusband, now husband again, has reformed, because we want you to be safe and at least reasonably happy and well cared for now And sympathy re the loss of your mother, which is almost always hard, no matter what did or didn't happen. It is intriguing how often a major happening, like the death of a parent, can seem to trigger such difficult health issues. I hope they will be able to figure out how to help your body do its best healing. And I hope that the docs figure it might be well worth your having someone to help you sort through all these most difficult happenings. best to you!! and hope you can smile ANYway!! Guest guest
HI Carolyn! No I haven't had it happen to me, thank goodness! I am very glad that you are getting medical attention. I sure hope they find out quickly what is wrong, and that they are able to get it fixed soon and well! I do have friends that have had stints put in without a problem, and they help. It might be a good idea too, to see if somehow you can get one of those emergency buttons? You know, the 'help me I've fallen and can't get up' ones? Elder Services provides me with one, for just in case. I can imagine that it is all very upsetting and a bit scary, no doubt! Keep us informed, pls! hugs, Jean From: texasstar1974 Sent: Monday, March 31, 2008 9:58 AM Subject: HELLO THIS IS CAROLYN IN MO. Guest guest
Yes I have but blockage can cause that. I had my first stints put in 3 years ago and a year ago I had another stint put in. Its really know big deal. Just make sure you take Plavis. The worst thing is if you are on blood thinners. The bleeding can be a problem, but don't worry they will stop it. Good luck two you. > > THIS IS CAROLYN IN MO. I HAVE BEEN HAVING BLACK-OUTS & FALLING ALOT. > i FELL THURSDAY NIGHT & when i came to i had cut my arm in about 10 > places > & hit my shin & cut it. Guest guest
Hi Liz, Even if your eating was not up to what you want, your breathing and exercise was great!! Yesterday, I walked 3 miles with my husband outside and a lot in the hospital with Mom. I didn't keep track of my LL breaths but did them everytime I thought about it. I took the stairs at hospital and the back of my thighs know it! I have been writing down what I will eat the next day --3 meals and a small ( yogurt and 34 c cheerios dry) snack in pm. And if I have to substitute I write it down on the meal I did and make sure it is about the same. It really is helping me to stay on track! Love, Connie -------------- Original message -------------- From: " lizkins9@... " <Lizkins9@...> Hi Everyone, Today I did 70 LL breaths working my abs, obliques, and face. Water consumption pretty good! But eating is still my downfall. :-o Liz __________________________________________________________ Dress up your wardrobe with handsome new men's clothing.
