Guest guest
Hi , My name is Serena.I am the mom of a 6 year old with OCD. Spencer was diagnosed just before kindergarden, Because of his age finding medication that helps even a little has been rough, right now he's on zoloft during the day, (we are going to attempt adding BuSpar) and Clonidine at bedtime to help him sleep. Spencer's OCD is checking heaters the more stressed he gets the worse his OCD is. He also has Sensory Intergrative Dysfunction. I have to have his shirts special made and they have to button 1/2 way only I also have a small investment in the sock factory :+) (they never feel right the second time around) I thought I was about the only one with this nightmare. It is so hard watching your child go through the same thing everyday and no one to talk to that understands. I live in a small town. I never heard of OCD until I watched 20/20 my son was watching it with me and he said " mommy those kids are just like me, Thats when I decided to have him eval..at least we have a name to go with symptoms. Well take care. write again Serena
Guest guest
Serena, That is my daughter's name and she was named after my best friend. I do love the name. We seem to have a similar situation. My son was diagnosed OCD at the age of 4. He is now 5 and has been taking Luvox since April, as well as Dexedrine. The doctor is stooping the Dexedrine and will start Clonodine. I would love to hear how well it works for him. My son has not slept in months and has had manic episodes related to the Luvox. Good luck and I would love to hear from you. Noelle
Guest guest
HI Serena: We also live in a small town, very isolated and rural and finding competent help has been a challenge. Hats off to Spencer for recognizing OCD on the 20/20 show. My son and I watched this show together the first time it was run and I had no idea he had OCD. Then a few months later I diagnosed him and then later we watched a re-run of the 20/20 show and I asked him why he had not told me about his OCD in response to the show when he first saw it. It made me feel so useless that he couldn't confide in me, his mother. He told me that he just thought if he practised his rituals more carefully and often he could prevent himself from becoming like the girls on 20/20. Sometimes he does stuff with his socks too, unravelling them, picking at them and I just keep recycling the old socks and ask him to boss back his urge to unpick them. Actually I like this compulsion more than his skin picking, which luckily is in remission right now. Does anyone on this list have experience titrating their child off medication? At his request my son has been titrating off his Paxil since October 1998. He is now on 20 mg and what we have noticed is that he is more alert and less drugged. He is doing a lot of CBT and his symptoms are there but not severely affecting his life as before. We are worried when the depression might return. Take care, thanks Louis for this list, aloha, Kathy Serena wrote: >Hi , > My name is Serena.I am the mom of a 6 year old with OCD. Guest guest
Hi Serena, I laughed when I read the sock thing. I don't know how many morning we were late to school because he had to line up the seem just so along his toes. Of course when he put his shoes on this would mess up the alinement and he would have to start again......Now I am very careful about the brands I buy. They must have very soft seams!! Jeff started BuSpar this past week and I think he seems a lot calmer. Sleeping has never been a problem . He is a good sleeper. He is just so anxious. The BuSpar seems to work. He takes Celexa also. Today in PE he was angry with the PE teacher so he quietly banged his head on the floor until class was over. He know has a LARGE bruse on his forehead. I asked him why. He said he didn't want to yell out loud or cause a scene so he got the " mad " out on the floor. Soooooooooo........ He starts BT on Thursday!! Take care and hope your week is going Smooth! ---SClem53971@... wrote: > > From: SClem53971@... > > Hi , > My name is Serena.I am the mom of a 6 year old with OCD. Guest guest
Hi , " 's Gift " is by . It is very short and easy to read. She also has a website but I'm not sure of the address. " Angel Behind The Rocking Chair " is by Pam Vredevelt. Who is the author of " Life As We Know It " ? What is it about? That title is familiar. I think Sara might have it listed on Product 21. Also, has anyone read " Another Season " by Gene Stallings? I've been debating about buying if for my husband. My husband loves football so I think he can really relate to a coach who has a son with DS. mom to Ashton and Landon(DS) 15months --- Dean Stauffer <sandds@...> wrote: > From: " Dean Stauffer " <sandds@...> > > Hi , > Could you tell me the authors of the books you > mention. Guest guest
Hi! I can heartily recommend " Another Season " . I'm not a huge football fan but my husband is (as well as a die-hard Aggie and Cowboy fan!). Gene Stallings intersperses his football career with trying to raise a child w/ds. My favorite part is when he was an assistant coach w/Dallas Cowboys. He started bringing ny with him to practice and he soon became a favorite among the team. Well, they won the superbowl that year and Coach Landry made sure ny got a superbowl ring too! I think your husband will like it. My in-laws gave us our copy and my father-in-law says he has read it 3 time now! I've seen stories about Gene and ny on " Dateline " and had the great pleasure of hearing Gene give the Keynote speech at the NDSC conference last year. It's a good story! Judi-Mom to Sam & , 32mos. Guest guest
Dear , You didn't mention if your son is in therapy. I have learned that meds alone don't do the trick. And often meds need to be changed and adjusted. My daughter Molly also has contamination issues. The meds relaxed her enough to start looking at them. But it is the therapy that is helping her manage them. Is your son seeing a psychiatrist for medication evaluation. Possibly he needs and adjustment. But more then that he needs to be in therapy. Please tell us more about your situation. Regards, Patti R.

Guest guest
Hi Kay, We are excited about our New Year's plans. My husband and I and some other couples have an adventure planned, which involves rafting about 30 miles down a river here in Oregon called the Rogue River--we are very experienced and very prepared for cold weather rafting. We will then arrive at a wonderful lodge, only accessible by river, hiking or flying in, which our group reserved three years ago to honor this event. There are lots of fun activities planned, such as costumes on New Year's eve to represent our favorite decade--my husband will be a football player, complete with injuries, wearing his old uniform, which is a bit tighter than it was, then. I will be a pregnant cheerleader to represent our time in high school in the 70's. (I wasn't pregnant and I wasn't a cheerleader. He did play football, but didn't get injured). We will miss our children, but they will be in good hands with my Mother and Sister. Happy New Year to Everyone. Guest guest
thanx everyone! It was a hell of 2 days! But mostly because my son Denton is the trouble! My youngest niece is 4 and a breeze compared to him! I think he is hyper-active...he ran me ragged! The most dramatic part was when her 2 boys got into a fight and were pounding each other into the ground! (12 and 10) OMG! I was freakin' ! Seems to be a common occurace there! We have to leave early on 1/1 to go pick up the twins in Oklahoma. They spent the week with their dad. Have fun & be safe.

Guest guest
Thanks to everybody who took the time to answer me. The can of Red Devil I used says 99% Sodium hydroxide, so I guess the 1% left is the ugly blue colorant. I will try again when I find some pure lye. I guess I don´t have the greatest recipes of the net either. Thanks again. Lulu
