Guest guest
I have recently discovered " skinny cows. " They are big, yummy ice > cream sandwiches with only 130 calories and 2 grams of fat! They are > heavenly! But, not exactly low carb so they don't fit in with my eating plan. > I ate two of those suckers for breakfast! Ugh! Oh, those of you on WW, they > are only 2 points each!!! Although I love Skinny Cows (since we don't have them here, I have to bring them back from the states), I find myself more satisfied with the kiddie size regular fat ice cream sandwiches (which are lower in carbs, cuz higher in fat). However, I have recently discovered something even better Soy dream " ice cream " sandwiches. They are about the same size as skinny cows, only 1 point and have more protein! They are also more satisfying and delicious I might add... even Jordan loves them! Janick

Guest guest
Hello Helen Well, I'm still employed by the same firm, just no client to show up to work for right now. Basically, I fax in my time sheet in from home and that's it. It's strange not having an office (my office was at Enron) but at least I still get paid and still have benefits. Yeah, the meds are more or less straightened out, I tried to take advantage of the insurance change to synchronize all the renewals so that I'm not always renewing something every weekend; but what happened was that the pharmacy would not have enough to refill everything, do partial refills and not invoice the insurance company till they filled the order completely so the renewal dates all got shifted anyway. I really need to find out how to do that 90 day mail order thing. I had thought of travel since the flights to Canada are relatively inexpensive now and I can get standby tickets from my friends at Continental if I want to travel within the US for pretty much nothing. However when I mentioned travel to my mom over the phone, she freaked. She's into the Chinese astrology stuff and apparently this year was supposed to have been very bad for me job wise and travel wise. She's taking the Enron collapse as proof of that. Also the last year was supposed to be real bad health wise so she's taking my CHF as proof of that. She's convinced that if I fly anywhere, the plane would crash. Of course, it's not encouraging to be told that my luck is that bad this year. Strange that my Mom still believes she can unilaterally ban me from travelling (I guess parents will always be parents). As it is, I'll have to stay put for a week. An old friend of mine wants to fly over and visit. He's a bit of an idiot, he kept waivering between taking a cruise and visiting me without realizing that anyone's attitude toward that would be " If you want club med, don't visit me... " . Anyway, he'll be arriving just in time for Houston's freeze. At least, I get to blame him for bringing all the cold weather down with him. Mind you, the buddy passes expire end of January and with my friend's green card situation, she'll have to stop working in March for at least a year so this is probably the last month for free travel for me. Of course, it's all standby which is why I didn't use buddy passes too often in the past cause I didn't want to risk getting stranded for a day or so. Regards, angelbear1129@... wrote: > Hi !!! Guest guest
Hello Anne, My son has a suspected IgA def., we have not tested him yet. I just wanted to tell you that he didn't become ill until he was six years old. He attended preschool and Kindergarten. It wasn't until Kindergarten that he started showing signs of PID. His doc told me that he hopes this is a sign that he will be able to outgrow it, since he was relatively well for several years. I hope Sam is feeling better soon. Sandi, Mom to , age 8, suspected IgA def., chronic sinusitis, chronic ear infections (with tubes), severe allergies. Nine surgeries, one pending. Guest guest
I can't wait till it gets back in the 70's around here... I'm tired of being cold... Even though we have actually had a very mild winter for us ) We should have had over 30 inches of snow by now and we have had less than 3 inches to date ) I keep a window open all year long... I do close it at night, but open it everyday, even when it is zero out... I like fresh air to smell and it gets so stale in here in the winter time ( Never heard of your soup before ) Glad you did a good job with it... How about some homemade noodles with your broth??? That sounds good to me... Egg soup is good also... Kanepoli's (sp) would be great with your broth also, that's a poor man's meal I was always told by my Grama ) Oh poor ... That sure was some adventure for her and you... I'm Glad she didn't jump with her being pregnant... Good thing it is warm there also ) I like your idea of a present ) !!!!!!!!! Take care... {{{ Caring hugs }}} Helen No snow here. The weather has been very nice, in the mid 70's for about a week now. The wind blows in from the south so I don't really get a breeze going through the apartment since all windows face south. You really need at least one window facing in another direction to get decent airflow going. I find that keeping the windows open helps with the sneezing. I've figured out a good approximation of the Thai soup Tom Yum Koong last night, tastes pretty good though the shrimps are a bit bland. Last night was actually quite interesting. As I was getting ready to experiment with soup making (I had made a giant pot of chicken stock over the weekend and now needed to come up with ways to use the broth), I get a phone call from my British friend . She had accidentally locked herself out of her house and needed someone with a key to open it up. The incident turned out to be far more interesting than that, she had locked herself in her backyard in her slippers. The side gate to the backyard was padlocked and the keys to that padlock was in the house. The fence along the street has thorny brambles growing along the top which makes it virtually impassable. The neighbough behind her place would probably shoot anyone knocking on the backdoor and the neighbour to the side was out of town. She decided to prop a ladder up against the small bit of fence along the side of the house and got to the top of the fence behind trees and bushes so she wasn't visible from the street, she couldn't jump down cause she's 5 months pregnant so she ended up fetching another ladder to drop down on the other side. Then she tried to ring the neighbours doorbell but all the neighbours had set up security fences such that you couldn't even get to the front door and although some had door bells at the gates, most did not work and none of them answers the door bell but rather expect visitors to call from a cell phone. Finally one of her neighbours garage apartment tenants showed up and called her neighbour to let her in. Then she realized that she did not remember anyone's phone numbers cause they would all be in her PDA. She didn't know about 411 but fortunately her neighbour did and she tried to call Mike and who have keys but live much closer than I, unfortunately their number was unlisted. Fortunately mine was listed so she managed to get a hold of me. I think a hollowed out stone may be in store as a future present for her. Guest guest
Hello Helen I think that Acetaminophen goes straight to your liver and until your liver processes it to make the various enzymes that does all the wonderfull pain killing stuff, it's actually toxic to us. I guess it just places a load on the liver which isn't good if you need your liver to be working on something else. Risotto is Italian creamy rice. You start with Arborio rice (you can use other rice but they don't hold as much liquid), mince some onions, lightly brown the rice and onions in olive oil just to get the rice coated, toss in a half cup of wine and then stir in 1/4 cup broth and a 1/4 cup water in every now and then till six cups of broth is used up, letting the rice absorb the liquid each time. Sprinkle 4 tablespoons of parmesan cheese into it and serve. The consistency should be creamy but still distinct grains of rice. I don't know the exact amounts of everything cause my cook has borrowed my cookbooks. I would guess that boiling would be as good as roasting, mind you with boiling, the flavours seep into the broth and the longer you boil, the less taste the meat will have. I'm doing ok, My company suggested that I report to a client site that was doing an email transition. It was a company that spun off a company I once worked for many years ago. The fellow in charge really wasn't ready yet to get anything done and wasn't delegating responsibilities out, I guess he just liked having a bunch of contractors showing up each day to make him feel important. I kept asking questions like what's the timeframe for the conversion, has any notices been sent out, has the other groups been informed yet and basically got him to reveal that they've done absoultely nothing even though they had plenty of time and hadn't interacted with any of the other groups. Also I kept running into people at the site that wanted to talk to me (not surprising since I probably worked with them in the past) but these people were all unrelated to the email group but rather were in the actual money making part of the business. Needless to say, the little email dictator asked for my removal from " his " site. Mind you, if I really wanted to, I could call up some old former co-workers that are now with that company or soon will be (they're buying another company that I know well) and his life could quickly become a living hell. Then after a blood work up I was told not to take them anymore...The Migrains would get so severe, that if I banged my head into a brick wall, that would probably have felt better than my head did at that moment with the migrain... Guest guest
Hello Helen I did leave out how much Arborio rice to use, probably a cup to 2 cups (cook has my cookbook so I'm not sure). The packages of Arborio rice usually have a risotto recipe on them, the only difference would be that I don't use the 1/2 cup of parmesan cheese but rather just 4 tablespoons in order to cut down on the sodium. It's also common to toss in a few threads of saffron with the last bit of broth. You may want to check to see if that blood work was a lipid panel and if it showed high liver enzymes. It's interesting to note that years ago, my blood tests showed high liver enzymes and the Doctor couldn't figure out why, it would've been about the time my current Cardiologist suspects that I suffered from a viral inflammation of the heart walls and may have been indicative of that; indeed my Doctor back then did do a " Hmmm, maybe it's a viral inflammation... " once, maybe he would've figured it out in time but I switched companies hence changed Doctors at that time. Goes to show that the problem is that the Doctors may not be able to recognize early signs of a condition and you're much better off sticking to one Doctor that knows your condition. I got into the roasting cause when I was first diagnosed with CHF secondary to DCM, I searched the web and found the web page of a guy that also had CHF secondary to DCM and he had a whole bunch of recipes on his website and he recommended roasting the chicken. Pretty sad that it takes an end of life condition to get us guys into the kitchen. Pretty weird, those medical terms like " end of life " , " end stage " and " incurable " . I probably would not have heard them except that my older sister is a Doctor and she started throwing them around in my presence, I think that my Cardiologist would have been careful to avoid those terms since it serves no purpose to say them to the patient. I think that my current Cardiologist would only say " You're VERY VERY SICK. " I probably shouldn't wait for the company I'm with to place me. I'm more likely to find a good people mix if I look myself. Still they are paying me and do deserve the right to place me somewhere where they can get a cut. The problem is that when it's a placement firm like this, the people that go to the placement firms are usually so clueless about any actual work and are just looking for someone to punch in early, and make it look like they are doing everything that they can. In truth, that was the way it was at Enron, the group that first took me on wanted prim proper and punctual and could care less about any actual progress or expertise (they were the group that lost the billion dollars and hid the loss in those offshore companies), they didn't like me much other than I was able to fish out the data they kept losing. When they folded, I was transferred to another group that was much more stable, didn't usually go out to these contractor places for people too often and they loved me cause I could jump in with info on virtually every topic they had to deal with. They wanted me permanently which would've been bad cause then I would've been caught in the collapse. Seems to be a pattern, people who make money like me, people who just loose money don't and I dodge total disaster by the skin of my teeth. The punctual bit is what's hard for me, with CHF and DCM, I'm tired all the time and it's hard to get to sleep which makes it worse so mornings are real bad for me. I'm not sure if it's a side effect but if I squint at certain times of the day, I can make everything go green. One of the meds is supposed to have the side effect of causing one to see yellow halos around people and flames leaping from peoples heads, haven't seen any of that but maybe this green thing is related. Guest guest
I caught that...I put a guess in for about 1 1/2 cups, so I was close ) Now that hubby is retired he helps in the kitchen ) Doesn't really cook, but helps me get things ready too... I have had several lipid panels done, But I get them done to keep track of one of my medications I'm on that can interfear with the liver, that's the Depakote. I was in the Same office building here in town for 30 years, and went through five Dr's. ) Two retired and the other three just moved on...But that is true though about staying with the same Dr. that knows what you are all about... As long as you get ALONG with that Dr. ) Back in 1968 I had a viral infection in the fluid around the wall of my heart, it was all infected and they called it Pericarditis...I also contracted Rhuematic Fever at the same time...I was in the hospital for four weeks and I was bedridden for six months and the next six months I was only allowed to get up to go the the bathroom and go sit in a chair in the living room...I almost died at that time...That stuff was nasty...I was just 17 years old... I would mention to the Dr. about seeing the green things...Just to make sure its alright... Don't let your sister get ya down with the fancy words...Just let the Dr. say yu are very ill, that sounds better anyway ) take care with the job...Maybe you can get something that you can work from home with and only check into the office occasionaly, that would help with getting up so early wouldn't it??? Just keep dodging the disasters ) Take care my Friend... {{{ Special Hugs }}} Helen Signature Creations by PANDORASBOX8 I did leave out how much Arborio rice to use, probably a cup to 2 cups (cook has my cookbook so I'm not sure). Guest guest
2) are your daughters having trouble gaining weight? mine daughter (age 9 and aspergers) is over 4 feet tall and weighs 47 lbs. she weighed 45 lbs from age 5 until this christmas, when she started Houston HN-zyme and Peptizyde (digestive enzymes) and has gained 2 lbs in two months since then. If your daughters had/have troubel gaining weight, what helped?>. I had trouble getting heavier, if that's what you mean...I was 4'4 " and 43 pounds when I was 10....I'm still a teeny little thing though. Guest guest
Hi! My daughter, , almost 13, has been on the Houston Enzymes since August. She has improved slowly, but surely since being on them. We can now try infractions on the w/g/c diet without having behavioral issues associated with these food proteins. I'd reccomend them to anyone on this list. Devin Houston is great to talk to and answer any of your questions.
Guest guest
Helen, I'm always encouraged when people thank me....It helps keep me going. Sometimes running a list like this is very confusing...especially knowing when to change rules or enforce them. I've been doing okay, my stomach (IBS) has been acting up mainly due to stress. School is very demanding of me right now, with midterms and term papers, my time is stretched to the max. My sugars are okay at home, but at school they go wild. Again, I attribute it to stress. Don is doing very well, he doesn't get as exhausted as I do, but there was a day or two he was down too. For the last week I wasn't sleeping very well.....well, I never sleep as I should...insomniac I guess. I got some quality sleep last night, but darned if it wasn't raining this morning...makes me even sleepier. Thanks for asking!!!!! How have you and Ross been? -- Hi How are ya doing after that Dream Vacation ??? How's the sugar leval's doing??? How's Don ??? Is he exhausted too ??? I want to thank you for this list that you have kept going for us all... Being able to share with others that understand what we all are going through also is a blessing...
