Guest guest
Hello! I'm doing a qualitative research on the social and cultural concerns of the high risk groups in Lucknow and would like to hear from any people working in prevention programmes in UP about their concerns. Some of the main themes that are emerging are the cultural unacceptability of promoting condoms, the image that HIV is a 'dirty disease' and so women and children should be kept away from prevention programmes and the important role that religious leaders could potentially play in promoting positive prevention messages to do with the A and B of ABC. HIV prevention programmes are going to increase rapidly next year and I hope this research can help inform programming so that messages are culturally acceptable and the most vulnerable groups - particularly women/adolescents are included. Another important theme has been that there are so many organisations working towards the same goal, but no coordination of efforts. This group is a great way of working towards some effective networking! Any thoughts/ideas/experiences warmly accepted.
