Guest guest
and others: Weight Watcher's headquarters is here in Michigan. What frustrates ABOUT ALL THESE WEIGHT LOSS CENTERS I've come to market/sell personal training services is that they do not like to discuss " fitness programs. " Main reason: They don't understand bf% nor want to deal with the fact of how the scale should not be a parameter of success. Yet, in some instances it should be. Second problem: I had a client from another Weight Loss Center who came to me after she " lost her weight. " She was 5'3 or 5'4 at most and weighed 118 lbs. and had a body fat of 33% Imagine how difficult job it is for trainer who has to educate client about increasing LBM.... Their body composition changed, gaining weight to 121 was a problem for client; when in fact the problem was that if they didn't exercise their body fat would have increased more, etc.......... Hence, wt loss centers do not take responsibility for EDUCATING THE CONSUMER on importance of both diet and exercise, (etc... proper nutrition for exercise). You know what I'm getting at. (Life's short, I don't have time to edit.) Final, but not nearly the last problem: Why can't I provide services to this clientelle? They are restricting their services to only " one select organization. " I'm here in the metropolitan area where there is a need for my services, but the world headquarters is not even interested in providing necessary personal training services... Believe me, these people need OUR services!! So why don't these " so-called " IRS deducting organizations utilize those that can make lasting impact hte most????/ That's a question to ask your local political representative! Guest guest
Debbie, if you are interested in pursuing the WW thing as a adjunct to their 'weight loss' programs, you can make a presentation to the organization with a listing of all the studies that show that weight training and diet is more effective than dieting alone. Searching the archives or Medline you should have enough ammunition to show convincingly the benefit of the double prong attack upon 'fat reduction' not 'weight loss'. If this fails, you can then use the info you have amassed and before and after pictures of your clients to market and expand your services. With your drive and determination, you will be able to create a niche for your services (remember that you dont have the multimillion dollar advertising budget of WW). Remember the ole saying, 'dont confuse me with the facts, I've already made up my mind!!' Organizations are slow to admit that their way is not the best, usually being contrarian, waiting until everyone else is doing it before jumping on the bandwagon. But even the Institute and Dr (which started the 'aerobics generation) is now endorsing resistance training as an effective means of weight loss and health. The same issues still confront the athletic S & C arena, in which you see bodybuilding routines being prescribed for athletes to improve on-the-field performance. Charlie Newkerk, C.S.C.S. Guest guest
> > Is anyone on it? > Hi , I am out of town so just saw your question about WW. Yes, I am on it. Recently I switched from Flex to the Core program and love it. I am very resistent to losing pounds so may not show a big loss on the scale but I know I eat healthier. My aunt and I are visiting my daughter and her husband in MN so my eating has been off my plan but I've been doing some LL and have exercised a couple days. Back to WW....I think they have free registration now until sometime in Oct. so check it out if you think you might be interested. Also, go to their web site for lots of info plus message boards so you can get an idea of what it is. Chris
