Mom to , (13, DS) and , (9) South Carolina prayer request Hi again, my daughter, Shelby will be going in for surgery tomorrow morning to replace her current pacemaker and leads, with an intra cardiac set up. This will be her third heart surgery in less than a year (you may remember we traveled to CHOP last summer for two back to back surgeries). We're a little panic stricken at the moment, as this set up is all new to us, and we've been told for seven years that they really don't like putting the intra cardiac leads into someone as young as Shelby (long story), but unfortunately we do not have a choice anymore. Anyway, please remember her in your prayers this week! Thanks, Sandi - Mom to Shelby (7w/DS), Stuart (3) and (2) @ @ @ @ @ ,,\)/,,,\)/,,,\)/,,,\)/,,,\)/,,

Guest guest
I just wanted to thank everyone for the prayers and thoughtful words you sent our way..... Mom called me this afternoon and said her test came back just fine...and they have contributed it all to stress! Thanks again!!!!!!! PRAYER REQUEST My mom has been having dizzy spells and double vision since about Sat. She went to the dr Monday and they done some bloodwork. Got the results late last night and all came back normal...not really a relief to me as they are doing a brain scan in the morning. Im really at peace with it right now (which sort of bothers me).....back before Christmas she had lost alot of weight in a couple of months....blood work and a body scan showed nothing including no cancer....up to this point I was a wreck! Now this comes up and I keep thinking everything is ok. PLEASE PRAY THAT IT IS! My mom is my best friend a person that I cant see not being here.....I also think about Sydnie asking for Mammaw and me having to explain. This deep down terrifies me! Please pray that all is ok .......everything up to this point has been nerves, she takes care of her mother, AND EVERYONE ELSE IT SEEMS. My uncle passed away in Jan and mom was doing alot of running back and forth then. I dont even know what to do with myself now that Im saying it outloud.....all I can ask is prayer from anybody and everybody!!!!!!! Guest guest
prayer request i am emailing to ask for prayer's for my mom. sunday she took a little spill off a step stool and today only finally went to the doctor after a headache began to get worse. based on her ct scan she has a type III fractured spine at her c-2 vertebra, which is at the top of her neck. they were going to perform an mri tomorrow morning, but actually ended up doing it this evening. the results that came back were not very promising. she will have to undergo an operation to place screws in the vertebra to realign and hold it back into place. after that she will have to undergo halo treatment for 8-12 weeks. they are trying to determine at this point if she is a good candidate for the halo, sometimes people over the age of 60 ( my mom is 64 ) do not repsond well to this due to the weight bearing factor placed on the body. the headache is being caused from leaking spinal fluid and they will also have to take care of this situation as well. at this point, we are working on getting her moved to houston to have these procedures done. hopefully by tomorrow we will have this all worked out and get her up here as soon as possible. right now we are all just very concerned for her as any wrong move could cause further injury to this area and worst case paralysis. please pray for her to get through this. she is not a very good patient to begin with and is very fearful at this point. this will be a long road of recovery as well, and we pray that she has the strength to get through that. thanks, tracey

Guest guest
thanks jen. right now she is in victoria which is where i am from. only a few hours from houston. she definitely needs to be here we all feel. i was actually up all night calling the floor nurse every hour believe it or not! they were supposed to put her in a cto collar yesterday when she arrived ( 4:15 pm ) and they didn't get it put on her until 3:15 this morning!!! even though she has been walking around for 2 days with this...if she had made the slightest wrong move in her neck, that could have been it. there could have been serious effects from that. oh it just blows my mind sometimes at the ingnorance of people....oh well. i have a pot of coffee waiting for me!! tracey Re: prayer request I am so sorry to hear about her fall. Guest guest
Tracey, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. My dad was recently in a terrible accident at work. He's 59 and may loose his hand over someone elses boo-boo. I think these quick and out of the blue accidents scare me so much because it reminds me how how fragile we are and not to take good health for granite. I know you tired and scared, and the not knowing is the worst part. Just hang in there, I'll be keeping you and your family in my thought and prayers! Guest guest
Is in the US? my daughter has cervical spinal instability from klippel feil. (this is what her mom has from the fall) where are you located? The best doctor for kids and adults to deal with cervical spinal instability is dr. arnold menezes of university of iowa. (we travel to see him -- as do many people across the country) Her mom probably should be wearing a cervical collar (check with the doctor as to how much -- definitely in the car) my daughter (2 and 8 months) wears a cervical collar 24 hours a day. Let me know if i can help in any way. best. mary Re: Fw: prayer request HI Tracey Sorry to hear about your mum hope she is better now, did the wounds heal from her fall, did she have treatment? My mum has been in bed for a few weeks now as she also has had falls at home. I look forward to an update. Guest guest
I guess I should just say that the below email is my 2 cents on a subject I have researched a lot -- not a doctor -- just a mom. I know how scary this can be. My daughter can not have surgery until she is 4. It took me many different doctors before one would give me a cervical collar -- I found out from another mom on the internet that the collar was necessary. Once we finally got to Iowa he told us to wear it 24 hours. my thoughts are with you. mary Re: Fw: prayer request HI Tracey Sorry to hear about your mum hope she is better now, did the wounds heal from her fall, did she have treatment? Guest guest
thanks mary for your message. she is actually out healing now. she was in a j collar for awhile and is now in a soft collar is what you would call it i guess. the latest images show her healing perfectly ( thank goodness) and they are beginning to slowly wean her out of the brace. we have noticed she is having a hard time coming out of it. i guess with her age ( 65 next month ) she is very nervous and insecure about taking it off as she should. it has become somewhat of a security blanket for her. good thing is she is going to retire from teaching at the end of march. she was going to go until the end of the year, but she can retire in march and she feels comfortable with her decision to do so. i think once that happens she will be able to be at home more and rest and take it easy. she also coaches tennis and she needs to be off the court! my dad made a surprise drive by the other day and that crazy woman was ON the court IN HER COLLAR hitting the ball with the kids. he immediately got out and busted her and made her sit courtside for the rest of practice. if she were to fall, it could be devastating. as to your answer, we are in the us...texas to be exact. she is seeing a somewhat decent doc in their town and she is also consulting with a doc in houston as well. thanks for your prayers and help :-) tracey prayer request i am emailing to ask for prayer's for my mom. sunday she took a little spill off a step stool and today only finally went to the doctor after a headache began to get worse. based on her ct scan she has a type III fractured spine at her c-2 vertebra, which is at the top of her neck. they were going to perform an mri tomorrow morning, but actually ended up doing it this evening. the results that came back were not very promising. she will have to undergo an operation to place screws in the vertebra to realign and hold it back into place. after that she will have to undergo halo treatment for 8-12 weeks. they are trying to determine at this point if she is a good candidate for the halo, sometimes people over the age of 60 ( my mom is 64 ) do not repsond well to this due to the weight bearing factor placed on the body. the headache is being caused from leaking spinal fluid and they will also have to take care of this situation as well. at this point, we are working on getting her moved to houston to have these procedures done. hopefully by tomorrow we will have this all worked out and get her up here as soon as possible. right now we are all just very concerned for her as any wrong move could cause further injury to this area and worst case paralysis. please pray for her to get through this. she is not a very good patient to begin with and is very fearful at this point. this will be a long road of recovery as well, and we pray that she has the strength to get through that. thanks, tracey
