Guest guest
things got worse ... Dr (surgeon) stepped in and decided not to wait for Monday to do surgery. So around 12:00 Dr came in to get consent etc. We (my bro and I) told her about how mom was talking when she came in but progressively got worse until she couldn't speak at all. With that she decided to do another ultrasound on the artery to make sure something (anything- even a trickle) was getting thru. other wise surgery was out of the question. well, it had clotted completely so now no surgery at all ever. Actually mom seemed relieved after Dr explained everything about how the damage was done and it wouldn't get worse etc. So now we will be off to rehab probably Monday. We have devised a communication system for now. Since she is right handed and can't move that side, we wrote out the alphabet for her and she points to the letters to spell what she wants. It's frustrating tho because her spelling was affected too so she's transposing letters and spelling really badly. We're figuring stuff out tho. The real good news is, I went in this morning and I asked if she can move anything and she lifted the sheet and raised her leg and even bent it at the knee!! I was so happy. Her Dr. said it was fabulous that things were coming back already. I'm totally exhausted! not sleeping at all and eating very little. She had a list of stuff she wanted me to do for her. It took forever to decipher because she tried to write it out with her left hand. I got it tho. it's a good thing I'm good at word puzzles. So that's it....we're on a loong road to recovery but I'm glad she's still with us. Di

Guest guest
Hi Liz, I am so glad to know that your Mom is all right, at least for the time being!! But WHAT DID cause the blood in her stool? You did not say!! Didn't your Mom's doctor know or find out what caused it in the first place? You did not say, but I would like to know, and I am sure that everyone else would like to know, too. Guest guest
Hi Pat, They don't know why she was bleeding. That's why they have to do a colonoscopy. The bleeding stopped so they sent her home for the holiday weekend. We don't know when the colonoscopy is going to be though. Thanks for your prayers!Love, Liz ----- Re: My Mom Update Date: Mon, 28 May 2012 10:32:35 -0400 Hi Liz, I am so glad to know that your Mom is all right, at least for the time being!! Guest guest
Hi Liz, Thanks for explaining what I did not understand, as now I do understand it. But why are they going to wait an indeterminate length of time to do the endoscopy? What if she starts to bleed again before they get her back to the hospital? Why did they not do the endoscopy right away, even though the bleeding had stopped before...? Well, I guess that none of this is my business, but it just seems so cruel to me that they are willing to let an old lady live in fear of what might happen to her... Well, again, this is none of my business, so please do forgive me for not " minding my own ps and qs " , as the old saying goes!! Anyway, dear Liz, please know that your Mom is and will always be in my thoughts and prayers and that I am wishing her the best life possible in the time she has left. I am also praying for you and the rest of your family, Liz, and, of course, for your dear brother Skeeter, too. Much love to all of them, and please do give your wonderful Mom many gentle hugs and kisses for me!!
