Guest guest
I use the Mirage mask from ResMed. It is a "gel" like mask. I have been on CPAP for more than three years now. It only leaves two little dents in the forehead after taking it off in morning. I know how uncomfortable the masks can be - I had one that actually rubbed a bloody hole in my nose - but I was bound and determined to make the CPAP work for me. But I had a great respitority therapist who knew how to help me. Hang in there and ask for help. ~guin RE: CPAP (was: Ejection Fraction - jumping) Mike, You mentioned “torture device”. I suspect that you haven’t found a mask, nasal pillows or other device that is comfortable. I haven’t either. Everything that I’ve used has irritated my nose or face. Did you find the same? Guest guest
Actually, I was just being a smart-ass - I too use the Mirage Ultra Mask and it's relatively comfortable. I started with the CPAP in 1986, and the improvements over the years have been incredible, much like the difference between my first AICD in 1995 and the current, much smaller version. My first CPAP machine had a "re-breather" bag like the bags used in the hospital - I used to smash it every time I rolled over which woke me up a lot. Time marches on. Guest guest
You can also look into the " Nasel Air " It works like an oxygen canella....it fits around your ears and snuggly into your nose. No headgear to adjust, hardly know your using it. Works great for me. Guest guest
Anyone else wonder why so many of us have Sleep Apnea? Is there a direct relationship between it and our heart troubles?
Guest guest
Yes there is a direct relationship. My sleep Apnea study was "borderline" but they did something because of my heart issues which pushed it over the border! ~guin Re: CPAP Anyone else wonder why so many of us have Sleep Apnea? Guest guest
, From what I have read, sleep apnea is a direct cause of heart troubles. Guest guest
As far as i know there is a direct relationship between sleep apnea and heart problems. If not treated sleep apnea can cause fatality. Re: CPAP Anyone else wonder why so many of us have Sleep Apnea? Is there a direct relationship between it and our heart troubles? Guest guest
Thanks for the suggestions. Come to find out, the respiratory therapist, who isn't a pediatric therapist, gave us the wrong mask. By blowing the air into her nose, and with her breathing through her mouth, it made her feel like her airway shut down. No wonder she freaked. At this point, the pulmonary specialist wants her in the hospital for 3-5 days to make sure she will wear it, and that it fits her correctly. After feeling bummed all day, I've actually decided it's probably better this way. ..at least I won't be the bad guy yet again. And it won't be 100% up to me to make sure she complies. She goes in on the 27th. Thanks again!! Sue mom to Kate 16 and Karrie 9 w/ds and other issues -- CPAP Sue, I actually sleep with a CPAP...I don't know the differnce betweent hat and the BiPAP but my machine has a button to start out the pressure low and slowly increase it (this is done automatically). I had to do that at first cause otherwise I felt like I was gagging but now I am use to it.. Hope that helps. Kathy Everett

Guest guest
My doc sat there and told my mom how he figured I had slept for the last several years. When he was finished mom said, ok doc the only problem I see in that is she has done that since she was a teenager. He told mom and probably even sooner. He said I will nap but never feel rested. The night I had the sleep study I NEVER got to REM sleep. He said for me to sleep sitting up til I get the CPAP. He also said it has probably been years since I had a dream. He could not stress just how severe my apnea really is. The guy will be here tomorrow to show me how to set it up and use it. I think he said I will be back at the sleep lab to spend the night getting the settings right. They have those Seally posture pedic beds and WOW it was comfy lol. love dsuzie <suzieandsandy@...> wrote: Danne, My brother got his online but he's always been a cheap s o b. Guest guest
My CPAP was completely covered by insurance. I used it religiously at first, but now, if I even bother to start off with it, I turn it off and neatly hang the mask on the bed post sometime during the night in my sleep. Although one morning I did wake up to find the machine still running and the mask on the floor. I have a follow up with the sleep doc tomorrow. I know a guy who uses his all night every night and takes it with him unless he’s going hunting somewhere without electricity. Re: CPAP d, me too. Guest guest
, We named our daughter's mask her " pretty face " . It took her about a week to get used to it, but once she got used to it she can't be without it. She even asks for it when it is time for bed. It sometimes help to use the " ramp " feature on the machine to get them used to it. The settings can be an issue too. If you live in a dry climate like we do, turn it all the way up to the highest setting for the humidity. Humid climate, lower setting. Mask needs to fit well so that air doesn't leak out from the sides. That often will scare them. We found ourselves getting up for about the first week a few times a night because would pull her mask and get it in the wrong spot, as a result. Her mask sometimes still ends up pushed to one side because she is a right side sleeper. Make sure the water reservoir is filled all the way up with distilled water before putting the mask on. The less you attract to the machine after putting it on, the better. I hope this helps. Our has been on CPAP for 2 years and she hasn't had black circles for eyes since! Guest guest
CONTINUOUS POSITIVE AIRWAY PRESSURE For anyone who has obstructive sleep apnea, what happens is the AIRWAYS involved in regular breathing close up upon lying down due to the relaxation of the throat, tongue, and jaw.... Funny thing is, IT ALL HAS TO DO WITH OXYGEN doesn't it....Even the solution for this is good AIR FLOW. Lifelift helping me lose some weight would be fantastic as there is some thought that weight loss can reduce the need for the machine.
