Sweetheart, I know you are distraught and I don't blame you in the least. But

first consider that this pup has had a serious heart problem since you got her

and fungus and bacteria make up our world whether we want it to or not. She

could have been exposed to a fungus before she even came to you.

What is important now is to understand what she is going through. What has the

doctor told you? Is the heart condition her primary issue or is it the fungus?

There is no point in worrying about the fungus if the heart is bleeding into her

tissue. It sounds like the doctor has been treating her with steroids, which

can help the heart but will leave her open to increased infection, therefore he

also has her on antibiotics. When you can, take a moment and write down exactly

what the doctor is telling you is wrong with her and what he recommends for

treatment and why. I can better help you if I know more.

As for the fungus. Fungi can be killed with light. But most of us do not have

bright lights in our homes 24 hours a day. And I believe this fungus does seem

to affect those with a compromised immune system and does not affect so much

those individuals who are healthy. You must therefore get well in order to

fight this. As for the black dots, yes they do appear on my skin. After I take

a shower I will spread lotion on my skin and sure enough I start to have these

little black dots forming. I assume they are coming from my skin. I try very

hard to not freak out, but it is very scary knowing there is something hiding

and possibly growing under your own skin. I have looked at some of this under a

microscope and many times they are tiny little threads. Is this Morgellons?

Quite possibly. I really don't know.

I also have had the black dots since almost the beginning. They have not really

gone away although they did seem to diminish when the mites were gone and I had

stayed away. Should I move? I don't know. I have been very tempted to do so,

but feel there is a good likelihood that it might just travel with me. I told a

friend that I was very concerned that the fungus was coming back stronger than

ever and I needed to have it tested. He actually got mad at me and told me to

quit creating drama. That all I used to talk about were mites and the misery

the mites were causing and how I could not stay home because of them. Then when

I got back home, everything was pretty good and I even had a wonderful time with

my daughter's wedding and family visits, etc. But over the past couple of weeks

the fungus seems to be getting worse. I don't know why this is. Although we

have had lots of rain followed by warm weather and I am thinking this may be

encouraging its growth. Or it could be because I moved out my washer and dryer

to clean under them and encountered all of this black stuff and I spread it into

the house...I don't know. But I hardly think having my friend getting mad at me

and essentially calling me some kind of drama queen was fair. (He later

apologized and said he was sorry but was just so disappointed to hear that my

problems had come back. Gee...he might have considered that my levels of

disappointment were a bit higher than his own).

My left foot hurts a lot, but not because of biting. Mostly it just aches. I

figure this to be Barts as that is one of its symptoms. I am hopeful that abx

will help that pain.

The antifungals like Diflucan can help, but I have read where newer antifungals

like Itraconazole work better. I have been taking 150mg of Diflucan every day

for the past 90 days. It is perhaps making a difference. But I am also taking

Nystatin. And a fairly powerful probiotic. There are different types of fungus

which affect the feet as well and will cause itching. Using a good anti-fungal

topical cream might be useful there. But you will have to use it consistently.

The key with any type of medication is consistency. Some of these meds have to

build up in your system before they start becoming effective.

If you start on the Itraconazole, you might find it helps. If it does, I would

encourage you to find a way to stay on it.

I know at times it must seem like there is just too much to handle. And it

probably is. So tackle things one at a time. Don't try to eat the whole

Elephant at once, start with one bite. Look at your priorities and remember

that you must stay healthy. It won't help for your dog to get well and then

find out that you are too sick to care for her. Be strong. Have faith.

Everyone here wants to help you. What part of the world do you live in?

Perhaps I know someone near you. Let me know and as I find out more I will

share it. Just like we all do here. But let me know about what the Vet says

about your dog...exactly. I have several friends in the Vet community that I

can talk with, but I need to know exactly what is going on with her.

I hope I have said something that helps. Hang in there sweetheart.

Terry amd

Thank you for your concerns!ss

I apreciate very much

Im in Scotland terry

thanks for posting the treatments I tried to reply yestrday but goes

funny

And I got holly home but she is a bit brighter but ill.

So this whole thing started two an a half week ago I woke n she slumped fever

n.ill

Shes still like that n not happy

But just a bit brighter

Shr was coughing n spasms chest throat sore burning up critical temperature

I thought it heart failure

Inexperienced vet say she eat something

She didnt

Weekends of hell

Spasms throAt

Tongue swollen gagging fever

Whole abdomen popping pain

Rushed vet swinging heart failure

Heart coping n no more but thought respiratory tract infection

Possible pyrometra womb infection

More abxs

Rushed vet two day later holly just lying there abxs baytril no work coughing

burn up abdomen pain to touch

They keep overnight

Scan.abdomen

Say possible she has mm of pyometria but not enuf to warent op becoz heart

Then.let her home Thursday they say possible memingitis or lyme disease co

infection

But I cannot aford all the tests so guessing game with meds

Gave amoxycillin m flAgyl five tabs a day she no beter slumped in stomach spasm

pAin with flagyl

Burning up just lyin

Blood poo with abx

I phone vet says leave to rest n.heal

She wasnt she,was slowly dying

Fell over etc

Satrday rushed to vet they v concerned

Kept in hospital nine days

No abx seemed to help

So satrday she admired they did steroids

For possible memingitis

No change

Them back on abxs ,

No Change

Then.ultrasound

Spleen enlarged

Lymph nodes enlarged

Then in space of week red white blood cells,n.platelets, rapidly dropped

They were healthy to start with when tested her a week before

Now anemic

Wudnt able clot blood gums bleeding pads white paws

Did. Needle biopsy spleen

Lab said suggests fungus and protozoa infection

But flagyl made no diference

They arent giving anti fungals as they no enuf proof

N I think im gona lose her n they day it isnt to do with the heart

Vet didnt trust lab sugestion saying holly hadnt been abroad but I told about

mites in other flat

Told I worry I gave her bartonela

Thet gave doxy two day only

By end second day she a bit brighter

Then they had to start on strong steroids as her red white blood count got

damgerous low

And half a baytril abx

Been steroid since Friday

Eating drinking able to walk about easier so they discharged yestrday

Nothing more cam do becoz finances

And I was hopeful as whem rushed in nine day before she was worse

But she unhapy n stil bad fever every night

Abdomen on fire

Very weak tho she make wory

Shakes when sleeping at times in unhealthy way

Shes sore

Platelets went up a tiny bit with steroids but if she got bang shed not clot

Its touch n go

Nurse her all I can

But im devestated as I feel steroid just masking symptoms a bit

Shes oll n we havent discovered why

And they think her immune system may be atackimg its,own cells hence steroids to

suposed her immunity

Making her prone to infections

If she got more infection wudnt be well enuf to fight it

At one point vet say didnt think infection to do with heart

However maybe abx no work as heart reseeding as only coping n no more

Hate see her unhapy

As she is nature wise the happiest wee pup I ever did know once she felt secure

with her mama

N folk n dogs

She on baytrol two lot steroid gastropeotectant

When she lay on bed next to me I got a sore throat

N feel the fever I burn up come out sympathy

Wunder fungal

But no spores showed up in x ray tummy

Dont think x ray lungs

But theres,no money any more treatment

I hate steroids

But have to give

But we arent geting to the botom of this

N she may not have long left

Amd heartbraking that it isnt even the heart that caused this

I was so.pleased to get my baba home

But she is,sad n cant go proper walk

Baby walk toilet

Its,floored her whatever it is

And im mo money so cant get tests

Sticks in mind needle spleen biopsy sayin fungal protozoa though

So. I do feel terribly scared it this house amd or me

I moved n took virtualy nothing

But guess ur right terry n.

Shes weaker cos heart

No one,elses dog terminaly ill

Frustrated as dunno what wrong with her or me

Back vet tmoro but v little else can do now

Thought of giving olivevleaf tincture becoz anti fungal but it wud build immune

system.

N steroids lowering libe system to.stop it atackimg itself

Cant even give flea treatment as she no strong enuf

Worried about that also

Its heartbraking bit at least justnow shes home n eating chicken n rice

Gentle music

Probiotic for dog

Homeopathy vitamins etc

If only cud get to bottom.of it

But its no possible

Please pray as shes a wonderful litle dog

Only had 100 lovely days with me

Her other owners not nice

I wear gloves to give her meds now

If only cud do something

Have read if fungus colonized lungs, they live two to five weeks without agresive

treatment

But vet not giving anti fungal as no definitive proof

Broken heart xx

What is it with Doctors/Vets? They will treat you for everything but what you have. They use to listen to patients and believe them. Two days of Doxy? I'm disgusted. Seems they are OK running 100 test and charging you for them, but the simple, real need for anti-fungals or longer term Doxy can't be had.
