Guest guest
Thanks for inviting me to the list. Nice to see some familiar people. Colleen, glad to hear of your success at your second show! Darn. I missed the swap! Well, I will have to get into the next one. I love swaps! So -- for an introduction, I guess...for those of you who don't know me..... My name is Golden. I live a half hour north of Watertown on a 40-acre horse farm with my husband, 4 1/2 month old daughter, 5 horses, and 5 cats. I have been soaping for a year and a half. For soap, I make primarily MP, but, in the past two months, have branched out my line to include lotions, body creams, bath salts, and lip balms. Sales for the past year have been primarily word-of-mouth, which a few retail accounts, but I am branching out to do some shows this year (first one next Saturday in Lowville). If you're ever in Watertown, and stop in at Sonny's gift shop/farm market/whatever, I just wrangled a hefty wholesale account there. and....if you ever make it out near Reno, NV to a place called Lovelock, I have stuff there, too! I love handmade toiletries (almost as much as I love my daughter, husband, and horses!). Guest guest
Hi We chatted in the other egroup, remember? I was supposed to be at the other Lowville show a few weeks ago and had to cancel. Welcome to this list. I think you'll like it. We're a lot more chatty here and not just about soaping. I think it's more relaxing - more like a bunch of friends. So don't worry about always having to talk about soap or other products. Right Terry? Hope you do well at your show in Lowville. I had my first craft fair yesterday at the high school here in Ilion It SUCKED!! Took in a whopping $65.00. Nobody seemed to be buying at any of the booths. Just window shopping. Had a lot of comments on my beautiful soaps but I guess people can't bring themselves to pay $3.00 - $5.00 for a bar of " designer " soaps - that, or they don't use soap anymore. Anyways, I'm not planning on doing shows for a living. I'm like you - want to get my soaps into stores and also get accounts to do wedding favors, shower favors, etc. Have a good day, and welcome to the GOOD list. Murray Ilion NY Thanks, Terri Thanks for inviting me to the list. Nice to see some familiar people. Colleen, glad to hear of your success at your second show! Darn. I missed the swap! Guest guest
You crack me up Murry!! Yes, list this is relaxed! Sit back and talk about anything you want to.. like a group of friends. Sorry to hear about your bad show ....I'm getting scared about my first show next month. I have nothing....and I mean nothing! No tables.....no display of any kind and worse of all NO INVENTORY! To top it all off....not sure if anyone is on soapcrafters list, but you might have heard over there about my swirling color boo boo. So I'm one batch of soap behind I have no idea how much of anything to take with me so all input is welcome....actually I'm begging you all for input! LOL I make bath salts, bath powder, soap (of course), loofah scrubbies, lip balms, lotion bars, wooden soap dishes and small gift packs with a bar of soap, a jar of salts and a soap dish. The lady I spoke to said they normally have about 67 crafters and they are almost up to 60 so far...this could be bad in my view...the show is less than a month away and they aren't up to what they've had in the past. Course this could be normal...I've never done a craft show. I tried selling crafts years ago at a flea market and I never made any money...barely made my booth rental some weeks. I'm not planning on doing anything with M & P for this show except for the loofah scrubbies...for 2 reasons... One..I'm not happy with my results of the M & P and second...Colleen will be at the same show and I don't want to step on her toes because she does only M & P. Also that's one thing you all will learn about me....I don't ever want to do a craft show that anyone on the list is doing also, without checking with that person first.Besides I don't plan on doing a ton of craft shows....actually this one is just a trial for me. I'm not sure I'm talkative enough with folks to really sell my products...ask Deb..I'm kinda quiet. ...though you'd never tell from this long email I've got going I think I'll be sending everyone in on the soap swap a sample of my boo boo, just for a few a laughs. It's a wonderful soap...the lather is the best I've gotten (think I have my base tweaked to where I want it), but you see I kinda slipped with the color and dropped the bottle into the crock pot....I wanted red and green swirled for apple spice...ohhh I got red and green ok, but it's really green....Christmas green! One or 2 drops would have given me the color I wanted.....It looks like 1/2 the bottle is in there. I did learn something out of this at least...I found that because I do crock pot hot process that food color will stay true! LOL My hubby came home from work and when I showed him all he could say while fighting back laughs was " Well what scent soap am I going to be using for next few months? " I think today's project will be to use up some of that soap...I'm going to shred it up and add the shreds to a batch of peppermint. Ok off to work on soap and maybe bath powder today. Guest guest
Well, Terri All I can say is good luck on your craft show. I will say it was a learning experience. The one thing that pissed me off was they had a grade school choir sing for about 15 minutes and the high school choir sing for about 20 minues. That's all fine and dandy but they were put right next to our booth and all the parents were there to video tape and watch them.....all right in front of our booth blocking the shoppers. One basket crafter got so pissed she packed up and left about an hour into the show. She said the people were stepping on her baskets displayed. I feel they should have had the singers in the hall or in the cafeteria which was right close by. If they wanted the music in the gym where the show was, they should have used a microphone system from the cafeteria where they should have been singing on the stage in there. If I had complained to the woman in charge of the show (she's a real " B " word) she probably would have tried to turn the situation around and said it was good exposure because all the people were in front of our booth. But I don't look at it that way. They were only there to watch their kids!! Live and learn.....I won't be there next year. And besides that, she put us right next to another soap booth. Granted, they did CP soap, but I still feel they should have been in another area of the gym. I don't mind the competition but not right next door. Oh well.. I'm pooped today. I think of all the hours I stayed up at night crafting and worrying I wouldn't have enough done. Boy, was I wrong. I'm all set for the next fair. All I have to do is more lip balms and body glitter. So now I can get some SLEEP!! See you later. M. Re:Thanks, Terri You crack me up Murry!! Yes, list this is relaxed! Sit back and talk about anything you want to.. like a group of friends.
