Guest guest
Was anyone else on the list prescribed Dilantin after cardiac/respiratory arrest? When my husband had his heart attack in 1998, he was in the doctor's office. He repeatedly lost consciousness & had mild seizures when his heart was in the " pre-arrest " mode. After an hour of this, they finally called the paramedics. He " coded " as soon as the paramedics arrived, and was rushed to the hospital, and was in a coma for several days. Among the medications they put him on, was DILANTIN. He was left on this med; he, of course, had memory problems due to anoxia, and it was aggravated by the Dilantin. Also, he developed extremely severe tremors; after a year, his neurologist took him off the Dilantin...and lo and behold, that was what had been causing the tremors. I don't understand why he was given Dilantin, when the seizures were caused by the cardiac condition. Any comments on this? Thanks again.
