Dear Moderator and the Forum,

Please find below an incidence we come across in our 'service centre'

A 32-year-old woman from Nagaram of Imphal east district recently visited our

health clinic “Health Care Center” along with her husband. She heard about

us-SASO during her stay in the Hospice (last month) from one of the inmates’

family.

At present she is taking both TB and ARV drugs. Her husband was also on ARV but

unable to bear the expenditure, he stopped taking ARV drugs. He stopped taking

ARV drugs for the last 6 months. Though financial constraint was one of the

reasons, he was also not given proper information and education before starting

the treatment. He didn’t give much importance and just took the drugs as one of

the medicines prescribed by that Medical Doctor. The Doctor didn’t give them any

clear information. He also didn’t go back to the Doctor and stopped taking the

medicines on his own.

Both the husband and wife are totally ignorant regarding HIV/AIDS and ARV/ART.

They also have a child who is sick very frequently. All of them are now enrolled

as our clients and will be given the health care support regularly from now

onwards. In reality, things have been happening in a different ways, when we

talk about Hands on Training for the doctors, big question comes out time and

again. Some thoughts –

1) Are we going to take little seriously what strategies we are following or do

we need some new strategies were everybody can understand or get better

services.

2) Are not we dealing with Human beings?

3) People (Drs) need to open themselves for change or to acquire knowledge’s and

practices.

4) Identification of Identifying centers/trainers needs to be recheck for

capacities is always an issues, we should take seriously on who should do what?

5) Needs to simplify guidelines or procedures where more people can get better

understanding (For physician specially).

The given information is one case from many incidences, so every right thinking

citizens or Physician or Anybody should please be aware or get adequate

knowledge and prevent from those unwanted happening for the welfare or

well-being of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHAs).

Thanking you

Best regards,
