Guest guest
Talked to my rheumetologist yesterday and he is going to give me a shot in my shoulder today- pray it works. Also talked about combination medication (I am on enbrel) and he kind of ignored it because he says the damage is done. Pain meds-a rousing no again. Even though I don't drive or much else and am having the first replacement on 9/14. Guest guest
, I hope the shot (cortisone, I assume) works, but I would still want to know exactly what the problem is with your shoulder. Especially since you have such degeneration in your knees and hips already, I think having your shoulder checked out would be a good idea. The rest of what you said is fairly disturbing. What combination of meds were you discussing? It's not as if you shouldn't be concerned about FUTURE damage. Now, if your rheumatologist is confident that the Enbrel is holding the destruction in check, that's a fine assumption as long as he is monitoring the progression carefully and you seem to be stable. What sort of x-rays or MRIs or scans of your bones have you had and when? What I really want to know is from the time you were diagnosed with RA until you started Enbrel and up through now what has been done to document your status (hands, feet, knees, shoulders, hips)? Please refresh my memory about the different pain meds you have tried and why your rheumatologist is so opposed to prescribing them for you. That's horrible. I know that, sadly, you haven't had any success so far in getting any good pain relief. Does he believe that you should just suffer? If this is so, you should consider seeing someone else. Or does he believe that the replacements will take care of your pain and that you should be able to live in great pain until then? This is making me angry! Your other doctors didn't seem to be too helpful in the pain management department either. What about a pain specialist? Sorry. Guest guest
Don't mean to but into the conversation, but my Rhuemy does not prescribe pain meds either. She refuses, she says that they are more trouble than they are worth, that too many people get addicted. Said there are lots of Rheumys out there who do, and that if my PCP wanted to precribe them that was OK with her. I tend to agree with you about the dependant, not addicted point of view. I have been a drug addict, and I am now revovered. I have had to take pain meds at times (got them from my PCP)and I had no desire to abuse them. I wanted them to be there when I needed them. I don't know why these doctors try to play God with our lives. It is scary sometimes. Just wanted to vent, tee hee. I'm done now. > , > > I hope the shot (cortisone, I assume) works, but I would still want to know > exactly what the problem is with your shoulder. Guest guest
, Went to the doctor today and had the shot-keeping my fingers crossed. Yes he wants an X-ray but is away for the next 2 weeks. My arthritis (pain that is)started 2 1/2 years ago. I have used NSAI, methatrexate, arava, A-sulfadine, enbrel, remicade and now enbrel again. All in sequence with varying degrees of relief. Monitoring has been x-rays a few times. Pain meds that I have used are- darvoset, Ultram and oxycodone (don't know how may mgs. they were but even taking 3 barely touched it) I know, I know, I need a new doctor! I will talk with the orthopedic surgeon at Mass General. Guest guest
, I hope the injection in your shoulder gives you some relief. Did your doctor say why he doesn't want to add something to the Enbrel? Yes the damage is done, but you want to prevent FURTHER damage. I don't get your doctor's reasoning. a Re: [ ] shoulder... Guest guest
a, Isn't the enbrel suppose to be stopping further damage? Ha! I don't believe it, I have been on either enbrel or remicade for the last year! The shoulder is feeling no better. I was hoping for a miracle and didn't get it. The rheumy will give no pain meds and neither will the surgeon. My knee is tipping in and hurting more each day. Guest guest
, That's what I thought too, but in the 2 1/2 years I've been on it, the RA has progressed into both elbows, my shoulder and my wrists. For me, Enbrel is more of an anti-inflammatory rather than a DMARD. In that respect it has been my miracle. The decrease in inflammation has decreased my pain. I am really appalled at your doctors. It is awful that your bones have eroded to the point of needing a replacement, yet they will give you no pain meds. That is cruel and inhumane treatment as far as I'm concerned. Do they give you a reason? a a, Isn't the enbrel suppose to be stopping further damage? Ha! I don't believe it, I have been on either enbrel or remicade for the last year! Guest guest
Dear : How is your shoulder? I got a cortisone shot in my shoulder yesterday and it is feeling a lot better. Is the emprel helping you? Why does your Dr. refuse pain meds? Is the emprel supposed to do the work of a pain med? I can't take emprel. Better Days for you and all of us. Sincerely, Colleti
Guest guest
How do you find a pain management clinic? I can't seem to find one in the yellow pages. Guest guest
Thanks Kathy- I never thought of asking my PCP...Duh!! I guess that is part of the reason I come here. 100 brains are better than one. Hope you don't mind me picking your brains. > > > > , > > > > > > > > I hope the shot (cortisone, I assume) works, but I would > > still want > > > to know > > > > exactly what the problem is with your shoulder. > > Especially since > > > you have > > > > such degeneration in your knees and hips already, I > > think having > > > your > > > > shoulder checked out would be a good idea. > > > > > > > > The rest of what you said is fairly disturbing.
