FREEDOM FOUNDATION - INDIA / TULSI CHANRAI FOUNDATION - NIGERIA

Freedom Foundation - India/ TCF is looking for committed senior professionals to

lead an innovative HIV/AIDS related programme in Nigeria.

Programme Description

A system was established initially in the Lagelu Local Government, Oyo state,

for providing all aspects of Primary Health Care ranging from reproductive and

child healthcare, health education, prevention and early treatment of infectious

and communicable diseases, identification and treatment of nutritional disorders

and a referral linkage to secondary care institutions.

The program sought full involvement from the community and the health workers

were identified from within the community, trained and then stationed in the

community in structures provided by them.

In this manner a very strong grass-root organization was created which

established a very close bond with the community members and was easily

accessible to them. This platform formed the basis of providing all the above

services in line with National programs, which were integrated and delivered

through a single point of contact- the health worker. Buoyed by the success in

Lagelu, the program was extended to neighboring Iwo Local Government, Osun State

with support from UNICEF. Hence currently in the south, the program serves a

population of 40000.

TCF in association with Freedom Foundation - India is to set up a program

jointly with the NPHCDA in close proximity to Abuja so that the NPHCDA could be

closely involved and could work towards developing a model system jointly with

Freedom Foundation - India & TCF. This was the genesis of the Kachia Primary

Health Care Project in Kaduna State, which in its full form will serve a

population of 75000 through 30 Health posts, 3 Health Clinics and one Primary
