Guest guest Posted June 1, 2005 Report Share Posted June 1, 2005 FREEDOM FOUNDATION - INDIA / TULSI CHANRAI FOUNDATION - NIGERIA Freedom Foundation - India/ TCF is looking for committed senior professionals to lead an innovative HIV/AIDS related programme in Nigeria. Programme Description A system was established initially in the Lagelu Local Government, Oyo state, for providing all aspects of Primary Health Care ranging from reproductive and child healthcare, health education, prevention and early treatment of infectious and communicable diseases, identification and treatment of nutritional disorders and a referral linkage to secondary care institutions. The program sought full involvement from the community and the health workers were identified from within the community, trained and then stationed in the community in structures provided by them. In this manner a very strong grass-root organization was created which established a very close bond with the community members and was easily accessible to them. This platform formed the basis of providing all the above services in line with National programs, which were integrated and delivered through a single point of contact- the health worker. Buoyed by the success in Lagelu, the program was extended to neighboring Iwo Local Government, Osun State with support from UNICEF. Hence currently in the south, the program serves a population of 40000. TCF in association with Freedom Foundation - India is to set up a program jointly with the NPHCDA in close proximity to Abuja so that the NPHCDA could be closely involved and could work towards developing a model system jointly with Freedom Foundation - India & TCF. This was the genesis of the Kachia Primary Health Care Project in Kaduna State, which in its full form will serve a population of 75000 through 30 Health posts, 3 Health Clinics and one Primary Health Center. This program will incorporate some aspects of the new Ward Health System with lessons learned through Freedom Foundation - India/TCF's experience in the south. Program Manager-HIV/AIDS-Nigeria Medical degree (MBBS; MD) Community Medicine At least 5 years experience with a medium to large size organization engaged in HIV/AIDS related program activities, especially in the area of reproductive health, PMTCT, etc (Not a back office person) Should have held a senior position in the organization. Should have had experience in organizing awareness programs as well as Voluntary Counseling and Testing centers. Should be conversant with all the latest developments in HIV/AIDS testing and treatment protocols Presentable, good communicator, leadership qualities. Prepared to travel and put-in many hours in the field. Experience in market research will be a plus point. Job Description: -Will be a member of the State Action Committee on AIDS along with Nigerian Government officials -Will be expected to add value to the above committee in terms of expert opinion based on his experience. -Will assist the committee in devising strategy -Will be a part of the monitoring and evaluation team. -Will advise the Foundation on which specific areas to support within the State's plan. -Will monitor the input of the Foundation and will send appropriate feedback in this regard -Will evaluate the various strategies with a view to advising the Foundation on which of them are effective -Will assist the Foundation in developing a HIV/AIDS prevention cum intervention Program which can be implemented in other parts of the country. -Will assist in incorporating aspects of HIV/AIDS prevention and intervention in the Foundation's existing health care programs -Will develop close interaction with other agencies working in the field both in Nigeria and abroad. We are quite open to having a Program Manager who is not a Doctor as long as he is familiar with all aspects of HIV/AIDS specially awareness creation, Voluntary Counselling and Testing, PMTCT, Home based Care, Startegies for Prevention. Some knowledge of drugs used would be helpful. Our package consists of a local salary in Naira which varies according to rate of inflation.Currently it is approximately USDF 550 for a person with a family in Nigeria and marginally lower if he is there alone.He would also get a furnished house and car with driver and an allowance for soft furnishings equivalent to one months local salary.He would receive air passage for himself and his family to India once a year along with 4 weeks leave.He and his family staying with him in Nigeria would have an International Medical Cover with an SOS ebvacuation clause.His children below the age of 18 would be provided with education allowance equivalent to the fees at the Indian Language School in Lagos.He would also receive a " savings " overseas which is tax free and which we are currently pitching in a range between 12000 USD and 20000 USD depending on qualification and experience.
