Formation of District Level PLHA Network in Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh

Dear Forum members

We are pleased to inform you that with the help of Telugu Network of

Positive People (TNP+), an election for District level PLHA network

was conducted end April and a Society in the name and style of Network of

Chittoor Positive People (NCP+) was created and registered with the District

Registrar of Scoieties.

Mr. P.V. Ramesh from TNP+ and Mr. Ramesh from SHIP, Guntur officiated

during the election which was attended by over 80 members from the

community. Twenty members contested in the election and a nine-member

board was formally elected.

The contestants each spoke for five minutes detailing their promises

to the other members, if they were elected. After listening to the

manifesto, the election process commenced in the presence of Dr.

Sarojamma, District AIDS Control Officer, Chittoor District ,

addressing the gathering she promised all help from the government

for their programs as well as help from the health sector at the

District level. " Care for persons living with HIV is the best way

towards prevention " , was her message.

The board and the members finalized their thrust areas in the first year as:

1. To work for livelihood options for the members, through their

SHGs.(speically helping and caring children of PLHA families)

2. Advocacy for reducing stigma and discrimination.

3. Linking and accessing medicines for OIs and ARV roll out.
