VAMP Newsletter is now online

Greetings from Point of View and SANGRAM!

As some of you may be aware, we bring out a quarterly newsletter, Of

Veshyas, Vamps, Whores and Women, that aims to challenge preconceived

notions of prostitution and sex work by foregrounding the

perspectives of the women themselves.

The newsletter is now online at www.vampnews.org. You can read all

our back issues and also subscribe online. The website will be

updated every quarter with the latest version of the newsletter.

Past issues at vampnews focus on issues of stigmatization,

rehabilitation and violence against people in prostitution. Our next

issue on media representation of people in prostitution is due in the

last week of April, 04.

At vampnews.org, we do not subscribe to the binary view that

prostitution is either good or bad or that women in prostitution are

bad while other women are good. We believe that the story of

prostitution is a much more complex one, containing strands of

exploitation, empowerment, violence, survival, victimhood and agency.

We believe that these multiple realities need to be fully understood

and digested - before laws, policies and programmes are formulated to

help women in prostitution. And we believe that women in prostitution

are women who are entitled to all the rights and dignities that other

women enjoy.
