Joan,

I just love that poem, thanks!

As for me, I am prepping for my first surgery- 9/14. Have done all the

pre-op stuff and donated 2 pints of blood. This is the total knee

replacement, than on 11/5 the abdominal reconstruction then in early Spring

the total hip replacement. They want to use a spinal or epidural which is

fine but I do not want to be awake. I don't want to hear anything. I'm mad

at my Rheumy again. He refuses to address my extreme shoulder pain saying

we'll deal with it after surgery. He says it is just moderate

osteo-arthritis. Well this moderate hurts like hell and never stops. The

cortisone shot didn't help. I'm going to conduct a research project into a

new rheumy while I'm in Mass. General and Spaulding Rehab. I am sick of

pain. Wish me luck-I want a miracle while my house and home fall apart

around me.

The discussion of depression has been interesting. I take 200 mg of Zoloft

a day which keeps me from being suicidal but not from being depressed about

my situation and guilty about letting my family down.

Hello , My mother (76 yrs. Of age) had a total knee replacement in Jan.

2001, she did really well through the recovery. Since she lives by herself

and is receiving both Medicare and Medicaid she was able to go into the

Specialty Hospital for three weeks where they did therapy. Hope yours goes as

well. May God be with you.

Hugs

Becky
