I hope this sort of thing is like with cars.... they have to notify everyone who has the defective model, and replace/repair it for free. Do you have a contact # for the manufacturer of your device? If i were you, i'd be calling them and telling them what you have, and demanding that something be done. Is this device what your insurance was willing to pay for? If not, then it might not hurt to demand a new device from a different maker. Free of charge, installation included, of course. Squeaky (and scared) wheels get grease. Guest guest
Saint Jude medical group. I seem to remember learning in church that Saint Jusde was the patron saint for lost causes. Should have been a clue. Now Reliant and Guardian sound good. Seriously, , my prayers and best wishes accompany my bad jokes. Guest guest
... I'm so sorry that you're going thru this... it must be so scary for you... I'm on my second Ventritex ICD manufactured by St. Jude... I can't believe that the nurse made such a statement to you i.e. " they're finding new problems everyday " ... that would upset anyone!!! I think I'd have to call back and speak w/the EP and have them tell me just what was going on w/my unit... but I do believe that if you were told it's not on the recall list, then it most likely is not... a friend of mine was on such a list several yrs back and all they had to do was make a few minor " adjustments " w/her settings via a visit into office and she's been fine every since, that had to be at least 3 yrs ago... the EP's office has a phone number by which they can obtain just about any info needed regarding the units... I know mine has called St. Jude several times when I had a ? that they didn't have the answer to ... and only last week I was in the hsp having a procedure done that required my unit be disabled for a bit... the anesthesiologist (sp?) wasn't certain of the total results of this so he called the 800# on the back of my ID card and the company called him back w/in 10 mins w/the exact info he needed to proceed. W/regards to you're not knowing if your unit is working or not working... I'd imagine that you have it interrogated every 3 months, no? ... and if there is any suspicion of a problem I wouldn't be surprised if your EP isn't notified to do so even more frequently. I've had nothing but good experiences w/St. Jude... when you think how many units are implanted over the years it seems there's going to be a few quirks to deal w/now and then ... I hope this works out well for you ... in the meanwhile, have you contacted St. Jude directly... I think you can do so via their online site at http://www.sjm.com ... good luck to you! Guest guest
, Try not to worry too much. My ICD was recalled also, but they were able to fix it without much to do. Bye the way, I've developed another blood clot, this time in my Inferior Vena Cava. They might have to do open heart surgery to get it out, and I really don't want that. I'm on heparin (IV) and have to stay on it so it looks like I will be waiting for my new heart in the hospital. I just hope to God the heparin dissolves the clot. Guest guest
, So sorry to hear about your new problems. I sure hope you don't have to have that open heart surgery. Maybe your heart will come soon. When we were waiting for my nephews heart, we thought it would never come but it did and he's doing real well. How old are you? I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. What state do you live in? Ruth in PA
