Guest guest
Expert agency to review working of NACO By Our Special Correspondent NEW DELHI, AUG. 12. The Union Health Minister, Anbumani Ramadoss, has proposed to engage an independent expert agency such as the Indian Institute of Management to review the working of the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) and to launch programmes to create greater awareness among the student community on HIV/AIDS. Dr. Anbumani said the working of NACO had not been " satisfactory'' in recent years. The agency would identify the shortcomings and suggest corrective measures. Asked about the claims by NACO officials that they were gradually succeeding in containing the disease, he said: " Where is the success? The results are not showing. " On programmes for students, he said that while special training camps would be organised to sensitise the presidents and other office-bearers of college student unions, he would soon have discussions with the Human Resource Development Ministry on the need to strengthen HIV-related education in school curriculum. At present, some information was imparted to students in 14 plus age group. http://www.hindu.com/2004/08/13/stories/2004081307601200.htm
