hi all....

i smoked 3 packs a day for 40 years and smoked my last one in july of 98

while waiting for an ambulance cause i could no longer breath... nicotine

gum did the trick for me.....plus a lot of fear when i couldnt get a breath

of air......

and, i to have been told not to ever drink again....managed 10

months,,,,but being alone all the time finally took its toll....i didnt

know anywhere else to go so i find myself in the american legion once or

twice a week drinking a few bottles of beer...doesnt seem to be many other

places to go for conversation out here in the sticks.....so,,,c'est

levie.....hopefully if i dont go overboard with the beer ill survive a

while longer....

just venting,,,,,,,

Guin - I can't imagine watching someone get continuously zapped knowing it won't help. I have put in writing that under certain circumstances, I want my ICD turned off and to be taken off of anti-arrhythmics. That may be really morbid, but I discussed some of my concerns with my cardiologist, and she understood and said I should make that a part of my living will. So I did. I believe my family and my doctor would honor my wishes.

Sue, I share some of your frustration (on the other hand, I share some of your husband's characteristics). My husband, at the age of 51, was diagnosed with bladder cancer about 16 months ago. They were able to remove all of the tumors, but the doctor said as long as he smokes it will more than likely recur. He still smokes. But as a heavy smoker for 25 years (I quit seven years ago), I know how hard it is to quit, and understand he would like to, he just hasn't found his way how. I, on the other hand, having suffered an MI, a cardiac arrest, having the defibrillator, and I'm only 48, still drink alcohol.

That's what Rich says, too. I'm gone all day from 9:30a till 7 or 8p.

We live in a rural area too, no one

much around to talk to fer sure. So he drives up to the local bar for

'some company'. I can understand that.

Just wish he'd order soda, or find some social group to join, or

something less unhealthy. And ya know how

'bar time' goes. He sez he's there 'just for a little while'.... the

'little while' being from 11a or so till 2 or 3p.

I KNOW how much beer he can drink in 3-4 hrs. :(

Sue (needs to get on day shift and be back home by 1p)
