Guest guest
The Sexual Health Resource Centre (SHRC) has been set up to provide technical support to the HIV/AIDS control efforts in India. SHRC works closely with NACO, has a special focus on 6 AIDS Control Societies and works in partnership with a large number of agencies and consultants. SHRC is organising a consultative meet on Innovations in Learning for building capacities to respond to the HIV epidemic in the country. This meeting attempts to explore means of learning like self- learning and distance learning that would work in the given Programme Environment. We attempt to put together a panel of experts to deliberate on the topic through Plenary addresses followed by a moderated Panel Discussion. This meeting focuses on approaches that would ensure that capacities are built so that the right individuals and institutions have the right capacities at the right time so that they can play their roles effectively in the given environment. Traditional methods of capacity building like classroom teaching, TOTs with aid of manuals and modules have been attempted. Owing to factors like varied levels of professionals, linguistic differences, geographical spread, the need for quick response etc. the traditional means of learning and capacity building have had a limited impact in the HIV programme. The short tenure of the decision makers and other key officials in the various positions coupled with the demand for delivering outputs also bring to focus the need for emphasising innovative methods like self learning and distance learning which can be used at an individual's own preferred pace and is an easy means to update knowledge and skills in a rapidly changing epidemic scenario. SHRC takes this opportunity to invite all profesionals and organisations involved in the areas of Capacity Building for improved response to attend and contribute to the proceedings of this event. The meeting is to be held at the Silver Oak 1, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, on the 17th of September 2004 from 2.30 p.m. onwards. The agenda for the meet is as follows: 14.30 - 15.00: Welcome & introductory note - SHRC Address by - NACO, DFID 15.00 - 15:20: Plenary Address, Dr. Janet Grant, Innovative approches to learning.
