Guest guest
Karrie's dad told me yesterday that he was planning on retiring. He said that I could file on Karrie's behalf for social security benefits drawn on his. She has been on SSI since her birth. Does anyone know anything about this? I will try to get to the SS office sometime this week, but I'm just wondering if this is another one of his tricks, trying to avoid child support. No, our divorce still isn't final Sue mom to Kate 13 and Karrie 6 w/ds
Guest guest
Tom, I'll send you my number off-list. What state are you in? Alana > > > > I'll try to make a long story short. I have been working full time for 21 years and have never received any disability benefits. The last few years were extremely tough and I was only able to keep working thanks to having a few of the guys I work with help me out (getting in and out of the building, going to the bathroom, etc). All I can do on my own is the driving, my wife gets me in and out of my truck at home. I really should be using a wheelchair full time as I have had a few falls and a lot of close calls, but I do not have a van with a lift or a very accessable house. > > > > The company I have been working for for 9 years appears to be in trouble. There is only one coworker left able to lift me and he is looking for a new job. When he leaves it's quite possible I could get stuck at work one day, unable to use the restroom or get home. At this stage I would be unable to go on job interviews by myself or go to work somewhere where this is not help. I hate to do it but if I get laid off or this guy leaves the company I may have to go on Social Security. My goal would be to eventually get a van witrh a lift and learn to get myself around better in my power chair, then try to find another job once I am a little more independent. > > > > So basically my questions are: > > How do you start the process of applying for benefits? (My specialists have been saying for years I should/could get them) > > Can the process be started while I am still working? We really can't afford the loss of income if I have to be out of work very long before receiving benefits. > > > > Thanks! > > Tom > > >
