I realize my situation is different, but i have received disabilty since 1991....and because of my limited income, i also receive state aid (here in Iowa its called Title 19...i am not sure if that name is used everwhere..) So, please explain it to me, help me understand...how can they do that to you? Long ago...almost 10 years, my then-husband lost his job and therefore we were left without insurance...i was scheduled for open heart surgery and because of serious complications...ended up in the hospital for almost a month and a half, despite the fact we didn't have insurance!!The hosptal informed us that each year they were alotted a certain amount of money to be given as charity, and we were selected to be among those who received it..we didn't see one hosptal bill, or doctor bill or surgeon bill for almost 6 months...is that a possibility for you? Guest guest Posted July 20, 2002 Report Share Posted July 20, 2002 for sure without insurance a lot of us would be dead long ago....there is nothing sadder than standing behind someone in line when the clerki says " that will be 178 Please " and the person just walks away. some country we live in.......millions and millions going overseas and we cant take care or our own... i also am so grateful for my insurance package.....i pay about 10 bucks a month in copays for prescriptions,,,,a buck each... ..i have the medicare and insureance from the p.d. i retired from.....medicare pays 80% and my blue cross shield pays 80%of the 20% and of all the docs i see the only one that wants it all is my cardio and e.p. they just billed me for 1.91 for an office visit.....can anyone believe that... bob in pa Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I refuse to let them win. I have to have a bunch of wonderful test. Seems that I might have developed a new heart problems and might be requiring some major surgery to replace a couple of values and put a patch on a leak in the wall lining. First I must pass the bone density test and I am going to have a nuclear stress test which scares me a bit because during the last one I made an emergency exit, They tell me I will be better monitored and they know more what to watch for this time. It seems that they have found several things when the read me and with my last EKG. They have also found a small lump under my left breast and my feet have been staying blue even in this heat. I am bummed and have been lurking and not talking but you know me open mouth and insert foot. We need to get this Stacie under our wings and get here some help. My son is employed by the government and works with disabled and critical care patients on both a local and united way. He tells me he has never heard of all of this. That there are no cuts for medical car due to this war or any other war unless we were in military meltdown. Then we could all kiss our butts good-bye. Stacie on the chance of being ask to leave this board your stories are becoming more and more incredible by the month. Girl if you didn't have bad luck you would have no luck. I can't understand what the problem is. What country do you live in? Are you in the Appalachian Mountains or what? Stacie even Guidant and Medtronic have special funds to help people with icd. There are all types of medical grants available. There is the American Heart Association. No hospital can refuse to treat you even if you are poor and have no insurance or money. There are hospitals that are run completely on charity by aids and grant. There are no longer the number of them that there once was but they are still there. There are a multitude of orginizations out there for you to contact. My son says that if all else fails that you need to write to your state representatives and senators and call your local paper for support. I can't believe your doctors would let you go without and let you suffer or be without medical attention. Maybe I have just been blessed but when the bottom fell out of my world a few years back and Don lost his job and we were in debt up to our butts and had no insurance and I needed to be in the hospital for months and to have surgery I broke down and stressed out and my doctors at the Cleveland Clinic told me not to worry about paying as there were funds set up for people like me. He made three phone calls and I was never hounded again my drugs were even mailed to me from the clinic on regular bases. I am not rich and we barley make it put if you need things I will make sure you get them. My son will get in touch with you if you need help privately. By the way this is for everybody; I talk to a lovely young lady from the link(i gorfot the agency where she is from) that Stacey sent us about the ICD owners. I suggest for everyones sake and future and for the future users do the study, itll only help afterall you got all the rest of you lives whats a half hour to fill it out. Even if you don't want to do it for me will ya because i believe in this lady and you know this is the first time i endorse anything(she paid me TONS lol just kiddin). They were just upset at what you were being told by your doctors and other. Everyone just wanted to give you some advice and to have you check into it futher.
