Guest guest Posted December 6, 2004 Report Share Posted December 6, 2004 WFP to spend US $1 mn on HIV-AIDS nutritional programme New Delhi, Dec. 6 (PTI): The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) will spend one million dollars in India as part of its programme to combat HIV-AIDS by utilising this fund in nutritional schemes. " We intend to spend initially one million dollars through a three- year project meant for nutritional needs of HIV-AIDS patients, " Executive Director T , told reporters. The global agency would supply technical expertise on how to use food in a variety of ways to encourage prevention, care and support for people living with the HIV-AIDS and tuberculosis, he added. This amount would be spent through the Health Ministry's National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO). WFP would execute its commitment for this purpose through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Health Ministry. Complimenting the UPA's objective of a hunger-free India, he said this could be achieved by conducting the nutritional programmes at various levels, particularly at schools.
