Guest guest
Thanks Terri, The specific ones I did lately are I took a little wire sleighs and put four soaps in them I wanted to have the seam on the bottom but if you tip over the sleigh to tape the bottom, everything falls out. I think that this really should have been ran thru a shrink tube and shrank. I managed to tape the bottom but I guess I didnt use packing tape like I should have. WEll. like with everything else, live and learn. I wanted to so so much more gift packages (not necisarily baskets) but I totaly was too busy with orders, which is good, but I didnt get much chance to do anything for myself or my booth. I didnt even get any slates painted at all for xmas, which is a first. Well, I guess next year I need to start earlier and be more organized, like in January for xmas sales LOL. Thanks for the help on the pricing thing guys!! Shaye Re: Shaye I ran into the shrink wrap problem when I was doing groups of my bath salts in jars and I sold them as packs... 3 jars shrink wrapped together. Here's the trick... saw it on one of those HGTV shows lol lay your shrink wrap out and set your basket in the middle. Draw it up to the top and tie with a twist tie (you cover this up later and saves putting your bow through the shrink process, but as your drawing up the top where the edges of your wrap meet, sort of roll them together a bit or fold them together so your seams are together. Follow me? Now on the bottom where you have all those funny corners sticking out take them and fold them under the basket and tape in place.... you can also tweak your seam folds while doing this part. Now shrink. You want to shrink more on the parts where you don't have any seams and just a little bit over the seams. I use the shrink wrap that is double folded in a roll from the craft store. I don't do baskets unless asked and then the price does include the basket, and such and full price on the contents. My gift packs are different. Those I give a price break on because they are so easy to throw together... a group of products in a cello bag tied with a big raffia bow. I sell out of these every time I send them to work with my sister. (looking a a bunch of them set to go to work with her tomorrow) Terri Our members map http://.homestead.com/locations.html Our Message Board http://www.voy.com/21568/ Check out these great Molds!! http://soapwerks.com/martinworld.htm Member Kae's Site... Guest guest
Myabe at the next gathering I could do a demo.... I've got the shrink wrap and basket thing down pretty good. I should have told you not to tip the basket! DOH! on my part... I slide the basket to the edge of the table and slip the taped part in place. Guest guest
Shaye Travel time/mileage - yup, that's a tough question. I understand where your DH is coming from. Maybe you should have a talk with her and see if you both can come up with an answer. She may be looking at it as a "business write-off" to you - at least the mileage part, anyway. Maybe you could suggest a half-way meeting point for coffee or something when you're ready to have her look at things. That way, you're both investing the time and mileage. Some people may look at it as "part of doing business." It's a tough one, alright. What would she do if you were 200 miles from her? M Morning and stuf. kinda longish My hubby thinks I should charge all my time and milage for the trips I tookto her spa to meet with her. I feel kinda funny about that tho, but he doeshave a point. His point is this is for her stuf, why dosnt she take timeout of HER schedule and come meet with me. Time is money ect.. (its about a25-30 min. drive to her spa) What do you all think about that? Should Icharge her or no. When he takes trips for work, he gets reimbursed for themilage, but its not like I am working for a company so...Well thanks for listening to me ramble this morningTake it easy!ShayeThe Soap Shackwww.mysoapshack.comOur Message Boardhttp://www.voy.com/21568/Check out these great Molds!!http://soapwerks.com/martinworld.htmMember Kae's Site... Guest guest
I really need to sit down and talk with my hubbys boss. If I'm not mistaken there is a way to pay yourself for these miles and still be able to deduct them at the end of the year. There are lots of little things my hubby has said his boss said we can pay ourselves for. The only thing is you have to file long form at the end of the year. We didn't do this last year or this year, but we're going to give it a try for next tax time. My ex used to use our car to go all over the state. He was paid the max on miles and it was tax free.... he used to make more in milage than his hourly rate.... some days he would travel 300 miles a day... some weeks he would bring home 4 times his hourly in just milage! Terri who is major tax terms challenged!
Guest guest
Hi Shaye Thanks for the info. Ya, I saw those milk jugs some place but I can't remember where for the life of me. If any of you other girls have record of who carries them, please let me know. Oh, BTW Shaye, your soaps were great. You've been a very busy beaver lately. Are you selling them to any of your accounts? Guest guest
I think St. 's Wort is used mainly for joint and muscle pain. A lot of people use it in arthritis rubs. I grew some last year but never harvested it as I had planted it in the Fall. I hope to use some this year if it comes back. (fingers crossed!) Guest guest
Shaye I've never used vanilla in clear M & P but I know vanilla turned my colored soaps yucky. I had a customer that insisted on vanilla in a (3) colored tulip mold for her and I warned her it would discolor it but she didn't care. I did an extra one that I kept here at home. I don't know how long it took, but yes it did turn the red tulip to an ugly dark brown and it migrated into the white backing of the soap. Guest guest
Congrats, Shaye. Guess what? I'm getting a new (used) vehicle tomorrow, too. I've had my eyes on it since November & taken it out a couple of times. The car dealer even let me have it for a 3-day weekend a few weeks ago. After a lot of dickering, I got him down from $14,000 to $11,400. It's an 4-wheel drive SUV (GMC Jimmy SLT) that I've always wanted. It's a beautiful red with gold trim. It even has gold wheels. It's camel colored leather throughout, sun/moon roof, CD player, power seats that even have power lumbar adjustments in the seat & for your back, and every bell & whistle you can think of. It's a "top of the line" in it's model. So now I've got to sell my "winter rat" (no biggie there) and part with my black Mustang that only has 22,000 miles on it. But this really is more practical and now I have lots of room for boxes when I deliver my products to stores. So WE'VE BOTH had a good week, huh?
