Guest guest
Yeah, I just searched and CNN's Web sites and didn't find anything. But trains do go into the World Trade Center. There is a commuter train and a subway station in the basement. nne

Guest guest
Hmmm ... okay. I'm not really " buying " that, though .. because most of Manhattan is *not* built on landfill and it's all above sea level. So, in order for the water to " keep going " , it would have to flow uphill. I can understand the parts that are below sea level and/or built on landfill getting flooded. I just can't see a bunch of land that is at least a few feet above sea level getting flooded by the ocean, though. - Ela (000)___(000) Ela Heyn / @ @ \ ferret@... | | ======@====== http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/5483
Guest guest
I don't think the part about the PATH train is an urban legend, unfortunately. I live in New Jersey (and take the PATH to work), and there was an article about the missing train in last Sunday's paper. That's the Star Ledger of New Jersey, and some of the articles are on www.njo.com, if you want to look for it there ... - Ela (000)___(000) Ela Heyn / @ @ \ ferret@... | | ======@====== http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/5483
Guest guest
Sorry that I sent everyone scurrying for info on the newslines! Yes, as far as I know the info is real. It's someone who posts frequently on another list I'm on. Here's the latest she wrote Wednesday night: " the train runs beneath the Hudson river and the last stop on that line is the WTC....I only took that train once-and only because I was alone and lost(my first time heading into NYC on my own) and got on the wrong connecting train and the WTC was the only familiar site that was on the stop listing-I dont remember shops and restaurants(I was too afraid with being lost and my only recollection was going up alot of escalators just following the commuter crowd trying to get to the ground floor level)...apparently the tunnel was flooded by broken water pipes and fire sprinklers and also by the firefighting efforts that still continue...I dont know if the basement of the WTC is flooded but I just spoke with my husband(hes there working til 10pm) and he said that they sent divers into the tunnel this afternoon but he didnt know what the outcome was-there was no word on any recoveries made...he said that they think there are 15 million gallons to be pumped out...there goal is to get at least one pipeline layed tonight(there going to be laying 2 lines) and the pumping will begin in the morning....and noone has an explanation on the amount of water--theyve been pumping out with 8 smaller pipelines since wednesday and the water level has not gone down in the tunnel... Guest guest
That's what the article in the Star Ledger last weekend said .. that they weren't sure where the water was coming from. The one engineer said that if it was salt water that would be " very bad " .... but it could also be from the air conditioning systems of the Twin Towers. I hope they can figure it out soon and solve it, whatever it is ... - la (000)___(000) Ela Heyn / @ @ \ ferret@... | | ======@====== http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/5483
