I would never want to get into that kind of business to order meds from

Mexico

I buy Soma from Med Mexcio it takes 3 weeks to get here and you have to

sign for it when it arrives. I have never had any problems I decided to

try the Soma for my muscle spasms as the Flexeril the doctor perscribed

does nothing at all ( not that the soma does much better) I dont' think

their prices are really that much better. Here is another place to order

from but they charge $15.00 shipping

When a site advertises: " No prescriptions! " I am wary, Jan. To sell

drugs to people who have no prescriptions for them is unethical.

The cost is lower, but is it really Arava? Who knows? You have very

little safety assurance and legal protection since you are receiving the

drug from Mexico.

This is a very good article on the issue:

http://www.ama-assn.org/sci-pubs/amnews/pick_01/gvsa1022.htm

Here are others:

http://www.businessweek.com/2000/00_12/b3673139.htm

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/DailyNews/drugs000510.html

http://www.olemiss.edu/news/newsdesk/story530.html

Legal Issues:

" Under the Prescription Drug Marketing Act of 1988, it is illegal for

anyone other than the original manufacturer to bring prescription drugs

into the country, said McGinnis, director of pharmacy affairs for

the U.S. Food and Drug Administration...

As for the Internet, prescription drugs cannot be legally mailed into

the United States by foreign 'e-pharmacies.' "

Source: http://www.jsonline.com/news/state/mar01/drugsid01033101.asp

http://www.fda.gov/ora/import/pipinfo.htm

One IS allowed to carry a limited amount of drugs for one's own personal

use when entering the US from a foreign country, even without a

prescription.

If you do decide to do this, I would tell your rheumatologist and let

him/her inspect the medication when it arrives.

Have you tried applying with Aventis for free or reduced-cost Arava?

Aventis Pharmaceuticals Patient Assistance Program

P.O. Box 759

Somerville, NJ 08876

Phone: (800) 221-4025

I want you to have the medication you need, but I want you to remain

safe, too!

HI .....I live in Az and a lot of people on SS and live in smaller counties

get their meds from Mexico. Living in Phoenix I am eligible for a Medicare

HMO (used to be 12+different programs offered here as little as 5 yrs ago,

now only 4-5 and they have all got so many stipulations.....I even ended up

having to switch 1/1/02). Anyway , used to also be you could get many drugs

that were prescription only in US by just going into pharmacy in Mexico. I

know I could get a Proventil Inhaler w/o a RX for 9.00 ...and here they ran

25.00 and needed a RX. Also alot of penicillins, and many lower pain meds

were available......now , well, you need a RX for your meds and you can only

fill so many months at a time(I think 3)...also you are only allowed so many

Rxs per person......and other stipulations. A lot of these people in smaller

towns actually charter a bus or make a caravan of several families and travel

there. Having been to Mexico many times in my life , well, I hope I don' t

have to resort to that . I would be really weary of ordering meds by mail.

from there....the govt has changed rules at the border for a reason.....and I

am sure you may think you're getting a deal but be very cautious.

There are many good programs through the drug companies that I would try

first...and also many Medicare supplements available this year .......In Az

they tried to prepare people on SS and have us investigate from Oct through

Dec ...I called Medicare and got all information available on any and all

programs,(HMOs, reg Medicare, supplemental insurance programs, etc. )

Having had to pay for 2 meds(brand names...no generic) fullprice for last 3

months has really been a pain....but I am now covered on this plan for them

and they will only cost $30.each ....and supposedly they will go generic

soon ...I do understand...I take about 12 different Rxs a month to

survive......and it is horrible..... I just thought I would add my 2cents

worth. Judy in AZ

I normally would not buy medications from overseas but the muscle

relaxers I was given did not work so I decided to order some form Mexico

they work better then what I was given but hopefully when I go back to

the doctor they can give me something better. I am really sort of scared

to get drugs from another country as I am not sure how legal it really

is but I was desperate.

Hi, Pamm.

I can understand your desperation and why you wanted to order Soma from

Mexico. Nobody is here to judge you, but we do care about your safety. I

believe that it's risky to self-medicate, especially through a foreign

supplier, but the choice is entirely yours.

I hope you read a lot about Soma (carisoprodol) before you decided to

take it. Here are some links about it:

http://www.spine-health.com/topics/conserv/overview/med/med04.html

http://www.biopsychiatry.com/soma.htm

http://www.healthsquare.com/newrx/SOM1409.HTM

http://www.genrx.com/genrxfree/Top_200_2000/Drugs/E0664.htm

Most importantly, I hope you and your doctor can come up with a better

treatment regimen so that you can feel much more comfortable. I think a

lot of us here can identify with what you are going through. Remember

though, if your doctor doesn't know exactly what medications and

supplements you take, it is more difficult for him/her to treat you

successfully.

Good luck at your next appointment! Let us know what happens.

Let us know what you find out, Jan. I hope they can find a way to give

it to you. That would be really great.

; I called Aventis today and they are sending me an application; however,

the income for both must be below $22,000 and with my husband still working

our income is a little over that. Funny, if I divorced him, I could get

Medicaid. Go figure.... Oh well, I'll wait and see.
