Guest guest
Hi, I have been adding non-iodized salt (1 tsp/lb of oil) to my water and dissolving well prior to adding the lye. I'm have been doing this because many posts refer to this and say it produces a hard bar. While looking over a Properties of Oils Spreadsheet I noticed that oils with a LOWER number of Iodine produce a harder bar. Has anyone one noticed if using iodized salt vs. non-iodized affects the " hardness " in the finished product? I would appreciate any advice regarding iodized vs. non-iodized salt. If I am interpreting this info correctly wouldn't iodized salt increase the iodine level resulting in a softer bar?? If my reasoning is right or wrong could someone explain to me the effect iodized or non-iodized salt has on the soap? I'm a little confused and hope someone with more experience would care to comment. Thanks, Sue
