tea tree vs. melaleuca oil

Hope this is an okay question to post.

Someone called the other day who wanted to sell me melaleuca oil. I had

been considering trying some, since I had read something about it on the

list.

Now I can't remember exactly what the properties are. I was under the

impression that melalueca and tea tree oil were virtually the same. Of

course, according to the salesperson it was not. (This was the first

time I had ever heard someone make negative comments about tea tree oil,

i.e. tea tree oil is caustic). Is melaleuca a type of oil, or is it a

brand? I am confused now. I have used tea tree for years with excellent

results. I'd be interested to hear some thoughts.
