Guest guest
FELLOWSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT Call for Applications HEALTH AND POPULATION INNOVATION FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME (FORMERLY THE MACARTHUR FUND FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT) The Population Council, New Delhi, invites applications for the Health and Population Innovation Fellowship (HPIF) programme for the year 2006-7. The HPIF programme is a continuation of the Fund for Leadership Development (FLD) fellowship programme managed and supported by the MacArthur Foundation over the period 1995 to 2003. During this period, 64 individuals were supported, who have become a significant resource group in the area of reproductive health and rights in India. In 2004, the MacArthur Foundation awarded a grant to the Population Council to administer this programme. Since 2004, the programme has been renamed the Health and Population Innovation Fellowship. The aim of the HPI fellowship programme remains identical to that of the MacArthur Foundation's FLD programme: to support mid career individuals who have innovative ideas, leadership potential, and the capacity to help shape policy and public debate in the field of population, reproductive health and rights in general, with a focus on two priority themes - maternal mortality and morbidity and the sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people. Since the transfer of the programme to the Population Council, a total of 12 fellows have been supported: the themes of their projects include risk behaviours of young people and other vulnerable populations, quality of care and informed consent, pregnancy related care, male involvement, the influence of the media on risk behaviours of youth, advocating for the rights of HIV+ women, and strategies for dispelling myths and misconceptions about Islam and reproductive health matters.
