It is my opinion that serum Ca+ is tightly regulated in the normal human and is not effected by excess vit d we supplement, necessarily. It has to be true because we could never regulate it otherwise.

I am aware of calcitriol, available by prescription only for medical treatments will raise serum Ca+.

I am also not convinced that supplemental vit d and sun vit d are equivalent, so I feel I need to supplement and I am doing that with 800 IU bid, just as a test for side effects.

I also try to get at least 30 mins of sun per day. I don't expect my serum Ca+ to rise above normal.

I think it's possible there are a lot of people even at 30 deg Lat that don't get enough sunlight due to working hours, travel in cars, air pollution, and clothes that cover all but hands and face. In my area a lot of people don't go out in the heat. (not me).

It just seems to me that there must be some explanation why olders get osteoporosis, bone weakens with age. Maybe it's just being inside, bedridden, too cold or too hot, or the like. Maybe what we credit with running (exercise) is just the absorption of more vit d? I'm also aware of a winter rise in BP, which up to now I thought was caused by the colder weather the bodies expectation of colder weather.

Vit d is cheap and 2 x 800 IU seems a safe dose, but maybe not enough to thwart disease - we'll find out maybe as it gets analyzed.

Regards.

Mine might be higher, but BP is so variable it would take a lot of time and a lot of reliable measurements. I will certainly let you know if I can correlate BP to supp vit d.

But realize that many supplements, or changes in diet can effect BP over the short term. It takes time to see if they lower it in the longer run.

L-carnitine, eg, will raise it in the short term and lower it in the long term, in my experience. It may be due to a greater "activity" removing it from the body and adjusting to a higher level of supplement.

Also, I see a annual rise in winter.

Regards.

Hi JW:While on the subject of BP. Did anyone else notice a sudden sharp spike in their SBP - a rise of ~20 points - in the past few weeks? I did and so did one other person I know. Mine has now reverted to normal. It was strange. It was measured on three different machines so it was not a defective machine that was responsible. I am wondering if this was just a curious coincidental anaomaly, or whether something had caused more than just two individuals to experience it.Rodney.> >> > If we use serum Ca+ as a guideline to vitamin d supplementation, a > level near the upper limit would dictate less d, and less sun. • 2 weeks later...

I willing to say that 800 IU bid (1600 total) might raise my BP. Something that others might want to monitor.

I intend now to stick to the 400 IU per day in my MV, plus all the sun I can get on these cloudy/hazy days.

Regards.
