Job announcement : Data Manager (DM)

Data Manager: Monitoring and Evaluation for Chennai and Tirunelveli

Applications are invited for the position of a full-time, Data

Manager (DM) at Chennai and Tirunelveli (2 posts) for

the Monitoring & Evaluation (M & E) activities of a comprehensive

HIV/AIDS care and treatment project in Tamilnadu, which includes

provision of antiretroviral therapy. This three-year project will be

coordinated by Yale University, Center for Interdisciplinary

Research on AIDS (CIRA) through its Yale-India office in Chennai.

The implementation of the ARV project will be directed by the Tamil

Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS). The DM will work under

Site supervisor and will report to the M & E India Project Director

based in Chennai.

Skills and experience

Candidates with Masters Degree in Statistics or allied disciplines

will be preferred. A bachelor's degree candidate with substantial

experience in analyses and management of HIV data will also be

considered. The candidate must have excellent computer skills

(spread sheets, Word processing, SPSS, other qualitative and

quantitative statistical soft wares) and be proficient in Tamil and

English. Prior experience in managing data collection, entry,

compilation, analyses and maintaining computerized data recording

system will be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

The DM will work under Site supervisor (SS)and assist the SS in

collecting clinical, psychosocial, and textual data by reviewing

medical records, and in conducting interviews with patients and

their family members at government hospitals and in the community.

The DM will ensure that the data being collected is secure at all

times.

Each DM will perform data entry, compile and do preliminary analyses

and be in charge of maintaining computerized data recording system

for the Monitoring & Evaluation (M & E) activities within their

respective districts. The DM will report these activities on a

regular basis to the SS and to the Project Director. The DM should

liaison with the local hospital teams, NGOs and others involved in

the implementation of the ARV project, and will attend district-

level project meetings as required. The DM will be required to

travel to the neighboring districts from where patients will be

enrolled for the study, and occasionally to the Yale-India office in

Chennai to provide project updates.

Overall the DM should be an individual with good organizational

skills who can manage a computerized MIS of all the M & E activities

in their site and assist the SS.

Salary commensurate with experience.
