Hi All,

Pain in the joints is not the only pain, now for Britons who feel the impact in

their pocket-books as well.

Obese people in East Suffolk, England, will be denied hip and knee replacements

paid

for by the government.

New rules from the National Health Service say joint replacements will not be

performed unless a patient has a body mass index of less than 30 ...

.... People who were obese were three times more likely to get hip or knee joint

replacements, compared to people with an acceptable weight (BMI 18.5 to 24.9)

Excess weight can also hinder a patient's recovery, how long they remain in

hospital

after surgery and the need for repeat surgeries ...
