Guest guest
Hi all! You may have seen coverage of this protest on the news! I just wanted to share a full list of news coverage with you. I was so sorry I could not be there but the energy of the planning meeting for this protest will surely buoy me through this week, and curb the nausea I feel at Bush's being in NYC. This is a great victory to both Debt Relief and AIDS Relief worldwide and I am sure you will join me in congratulating my friends who had the courage to make this sacrifice to send this message out. Thanks & enjoy Joya <jb2026@...> _______________________________________________ (from ) What went down: We walked to the intersection of 33rd St and 8th Ave, which is the corner where Madison Square Garden is. We walked into the crosswalk across 8th Ave and spread out, tearing off our clothes to reveal body paint stenciling of " Drop the Debt " and " Stop AIDS " and nothing else besides our birthday suits. We chanted several different chants, such as " Bush, stop AIDS, drop the debt now. " We were able to continue like this for ten minutes as the press excitedly and frantically ( " tit " illated, if you will) ran around taking pictures, traffic stopped to a standstill, and random passersby pulled out their cameras and camera phones to record the action. The police were very hesitant to arrest us, which is why we got a full ten minutes to do our thing. Finally, they arrested us, piling us naked into the paddy wagon and taking us to the precinct. Meanwhile, four people had two banners. Two people with one banner were on the street with the naked people, and the other two climbed onto a trailer next to a bridge w/ a " NYC 2004 " sign with a twenty foot-long banner that said " W: Drop the Debt. Stop AIDS. " The two on the trailer were also arrested. The press reaction was unbelievably fantastic, and the protest went better than any of us dreamed it would be. It was fanTAStic. All of us were released except the two who were on the trailer, who faced different charges. So, things are GREAT. We have had unbelievable press. We've gotten press in the UK, and all over the country. My ass was literally on network television throughout the nation. Jennings talked about us on ABC News according to a source in Ohio, and a South Carolinian saw us on local NBC news. Now I'm going to leave you with an extensive list of links to press (it's everything we've found thus far).
