Guest guest
Hi folks: Further to the comments about Dr. Atkins' increase in weight while on IV ................... Worth noting that one pound of sugar contains only about 1700 calories. One pound of most oils contains somewhat more than 4000 calories. The implications seems to be that absorption and assimilation of carbs entails retention of quite a lot of water, while consumption of fats in some way causes the excretion of water. Perhaps. Thoughts? Rodney.
Guest guest
For the record..(and with all due respect for the doctor) Dr Atkins change in weight was due more to a " discrepancy " in reporting than to " actual " numbers. The weight recorded by the paramedics and the hospital upon admittance was a " reported " weight given to them by family. The later weight, was done by actually weighing the body. He didnt gain that much weight in the hospital. If he did, there would have been medical intervention. HIs wife released a " quiet " press release a week or so after his death confirming that he had coronary artery disease, was being treated for hit, and that it had progressed over the last few years. They also gave his official BMI as around 27. Guest guest
About 4.6 oz of water is required to solubilize 100 kcals of carbs (per Dr ). So walk a mile and free up 4.6 oz of water and 1 oz of carbs. Fats don't need that. Consumption of fat only means loss of water to hold the carbs,ie, it doesn't "drive out" the water.. Regards.
