Guest guest
>How do hydrosols differ from EO's. What is the benefit of using them over >EO's? I have heard the term but never know what it was or how they are >used. Could someone enlighten me? okay...there are two separate products (distillates) from the process of steam distillation. one is the essential oil...which contains the VOLATILE aromatic chemicals from the flower, herb, root, etc. the 'essence' of the plant. extremely concentrated and intense... normal recommended therapeutic use is 2.5 %...ie, 15 drops per ounce of carrier oil. then there are the hydrosols...which are water...containing the water soluble NONvolatile aromatic chemicals, as well as minute traces of the eo's. they are much much milder than the eo's..safe to use on infants, the elderly or frail who shouldn't have eo's used (or need a very weak dilution.) they may (or may not!) smell like the eo..which, again, may or may not smell like the plant.
