Dear Moderator,

Family Planning Association of India (FPA India) is an organisation that works

for sexual and reproductive health including family planning. It is a founder

member of the international Plannned Parenthood Federation, one of the world's

largest non governmental organisation and advocate of sexual and reproductive

rights.

FPA announce the National Conference: Tomorrow’s Youth Today. Role of 10 – 14

Years In Reproductive and Sexual Health Programs

“Tomorrow’s Youth Today” organized by FPA India (Family Planning Association of

India) is being held at India International Centre, in New Delhi from February

23 - 24, 2005 to bring different stakeholders on a common platform and examine

the issues of 10-14 years old within the context of development and developing

effective program strategies.

The objectives of the conference:

· Identify and review the current situation in terms of the sexual and

reproductive health concerns and needs of the very young adolescents.

· Recommend appropriate strategies for effective sexual and reproductive health

programs and policies.

FPA India envisions a future where exercising the right to sexual and

reproductive health by all individuals and couples including adolescents and

young persons contributes towards population stabilization leading to a

reduction in poverty and a better quality of life.

Young people of age 10-24 years are now recognized and accepted as important

change agents for the success of the reproductive and sexual health programs

(S & RH). Most of the adolescent reproductive health programs focus on 15-19 year

old age group. There is an increasing need to recognize that 10-14 years is also

an important age group. Compared to 15-19 years old, there is little knowledge

and information about 10-14 years old. The themes to be covered in the

conference are – challenges (including social concerns) of the very young

adolescents, child abuse, meeting the challenges and strategies for action –

education and advocacy. For registration see the form given below
