I buy the cranberry juice concentrate at the health food store and then dilute it. I can't stand straight cranberry juice. I put it in 44 oz of water, so I end up drinking a good amount of water too. I have heard that blueberries also help the urinary tract.

Hi All......regarding cranberry and whether it works or not and whyheres an article that may be of interest. I used to work withdieticians... their views swayed as to whether it worked or not. Atfirst they recommended it...then they stopped ...now again theyrecommend it ...i guess because of the research that shows although itmay not get rid of an infection when you have one ..but...it may preventone from reoccurring because of the action that cranberry seems to haveand that action is keeping bacterisa from sticking to the lining of thebladder. Those that get reoccurring infections and only treat it withcranberry juice or capsules may keep getting them simply because theynever actually got rid of it in the first place.Personally my views, and from what I have read, grocery store cranberryjuice isnt as beneficial because of the high sugar content. It is notgood for a number of reasons, firstly because bacteria feeds offsugar...therefore you could be aiding the infection by feeding it moresugar. Secondly, diabetes should be cautious as to how much theydrink....a diabetic portion of cranberry juice ...if not an unsweetenedkind...is 2 oz...just like a serving of grape juice.Whenever anyone is treated with antibiotics , my personnal opinion is totake garlic and lactobacillus acidophillus capsules at the sametime....antibiotics ...kill all bacteria...good as well...and you needthe good to help the body fight the infection...otherwise they seem toreoccur. Sugar can suppress the immune system for up to six hours afteringesting...so the last thing a sick person needs to do is overload onsugar. Their immunity is at stake.
