Guest guest
Dear Forum, Ultimately a soccer player! That is what was left for us to hear!! Good news indeed!!! Cheers!!!! A soccer player from abroad is heading the research team on " Socio–economic impact of AIDS on Households " as if there is absolute poverty of qualified researchers from India. Over and above, the person who is heading is an MA student in Political Science at Boston College. Is our level of education so " rubbish " that qualified PhDs with 5–10 years of hands on experience do not get a chance for doing such a job? Or to put it otherwise, when this country has such a huge level of unemployment, why these foreigners are recruited for overlooking/ heading programmes? I understand, he has been recruited by UN, but did UN not find any qualified person from a country of 1.2 billion? That's shame! I wonder whether this is NCAER Project, and if this is so, then how NCAER with its reputed brand of social scientists would allow a soccer player to head their research team? This is unbelieveable! I seriously wonder where we are heading up to? And what is the future of our country AIDS programme with this level of foreign interference? This issue was raised a few days ago by someone from abroad, but it seemed to have of little interest to our esteemed readers. Soccer Stars are good for the field. But do we really want a soccer star to head our HIV research team? Mr. Young A PLHA from Delhi E-mail: < >
Guest guest
Dear Forum Members, I totally agree with Mr. Young. He has raised a very valid point although its not new and many of us have raised this time and again. Its necessary to understand the whole political economy of funded HIV/AIDS research headed by unprofessional. Most interestingly these surveys, research findings are used at times to misled us. I think there is strong need to challenge these finding academically and methodologically. I do not understand the cheer of people that " Former US Soccer Player to lead HIV research in India " . Subir Kole has raised these very strongly few days back and I think this should be contested from the group and activists working in India. We should understand the difference between researcher and ambassador. Anant Kumar Ph. D.
