Guest guest
hey guys today its been a week since the icd implant... i am struggling... i am in quite a bit of pain, and really tired, i have been having a tough time sleeping. i had a lower back operation a few years back, so sleeping on my back is not that comfortable and with the ICD site still very tender i cannot sleep on my side, i am getting 2 hours at a time if i am lucky... also my shoulder is killing me, almost feels like it was dislocated or something.. also have a small spot or two on my skin near the implant site where there is no sensation at all, my chest is also sore, kinda of a burning tight feeling... feels like someone whacked me in the shoulder blades with a bat... just wanted to know if any of you guys had kinda similar experience just after your ICD was put in? and if so, how long did you feel that way? Guest guest
I got my first ICD in 2005 and my memory tells me that a lot of what you describe also happened to me. I had a heart valve prosthesis put in about 17 years ago and that hurt like the dickens also. Consider it the price to pay for future life. Because of the heart valve they won't let me leave the hospital until they regulate the blood thinner so most of my pain was when I could get drugs and sympathy from the nurses. LOL I have found that I can get more comfortable with a few extra pillows to hug and put anyplace where pressure is a problem. As for being tired, I understand it takes a lot of energy for the body to heal itself so most of your energy is going to mending all the places you are hurting and a few that you don't feel. One of my first memories after the valve surgery was waking up thinking this hurts like )*()(* and then seeing people and I figured I must not have died so I tried to be thankful. I hope you have shared your symptoms with your doctor and so that they can be sure that everything is OK. If all goes well you will see improvement every day and eventually the pain will only be a memory. Joe Schmidt God Loves Us All But isn't always happy with us! Guest guest
Werner; I am sorry you are struggling. I want to say this is not normal. Well it wasn't for me. I guess it depends on alot of things, your age, health etc. I was 41 when I was first implanted 9 years ago. I was driving by day three I was sore as mine was implanted in the muscle. I needed help getting dressed and I slept with pillows in those stress points. I slept on my side hugging a pillow or one under the unit. I did not have the pain you are describing. It could be your unit is sitting near or on a nerve. It could be that the surgeons were brutal to your body... I don't know. As I said mine was implanted under the muscle and the muscle was cut so therefore I was very sore. But no pain killers on day three (except at night) and I was driving and moving by day three. I did over do it at my thirty day mark, when they told me I could go back to exercise. Then I was truly sore and in pain. They told me I had done too much and should rest. (I have had two replacements and they were much simpler) Do remember that your body has just gone through major trauma and anesthesia and it takes time for the healing process. It will take a good 6 weeks to truly recover from the anesthesia and all. Be patient, but definitely talk to your doctor. ~guin Week 1... hey guystoday its been a week since the icd implant...i am struggling... i am in quite a bit of pain, and really tired, i have been having a tough time sleeping. i had a lower back operation a few years back, so sleeping on my back is not that comfortable and with the ICD site still very tender i cannot sleep on my side, i am getting 2 hours at a time if i am lucky...also my shoulder is killing me, almost feels like it was dislocated or something.. also have a small spot or two on my skin near the implant site where there is no sensation at all, my chest is also sore, kinda of a burning tight feeling... feels like someone whacked me in the shoulder blades with a bat... just wanted to know if any of you guys had kinda similar experience just after your ICD was put in? and if so, how long did you feel that way?
