Guest guest
in orlando we have already hit the 96 degree mark the other day so it is promising to be an extremely hot summer. it is a horrible catch-22 here if you go out because you have to drink so much extra fluid just to stay hydrated but that overloads the heart, etc. i also spend alot of time inside and still have the extra swelling and misery....if i HAVE to go out for more than a few minutes, i get in a tub of cold water after i come in just to try to speed up the cooling process...... wishing i lived in alaska evie Re: Dealing with water retention and summer heat and humidity Speaking from west-central Indiana where the summers are also HOT - I know what you mean. Feet, ankles, hands - all swelling bigtime. Yep, I've been more short of breath, too. What to do about it? Thus far I've been staying inside (as I do so much of the time that my husband calls me a "house plant"!). Guest guest
It has been getting pretty HOT here in New England the last several summers or so. I bought a personal cooling system from Sharper Image and I am hoping that it will help keep me cool when I am not in air conditioning. I will let you all know how it works. Guest guest
I too am only on Spironolactone. It works great for me (considering I am allergic to Lasix) I don't have any trouble with swelling or water retention either. However I live in CA -- it gets hot but not like in those very humid climates -- oh I can't even breathe in those climates.... Anyway remember though some salt is good for you and you sweat out alot of the salt in these hot days. My blood pressure gets soooo low on the meds that my Doc no longer restricts my salt in take. I didn't realize that salt also increases your blood pressure! The Doc didn't want to decrease anymore of meds because of the low blood pressure, so he told me to start eating more salt - if you can imagine that! ~guin CA Re: Dealing with water retention and summer heat and humidity Just a note to everyone who deals with swelling and water retentionissues pertaining to hot weather. Like so many of us, I used to have aproblem with water retention, still do now and then too, so nothing isfail safe or perfect. My doctor put me on a a drug calledspironolactone besides lasix. As long as I take both of them, I hardlyhave any problems with water retention as long as I'm REALLY carefulwatching out for liquids and foods which have extra sugars and salts.Watch out for hidden salts in other ingredients. If nothing else, youhave something new to research and ask your doctors about.Life is precarious, live it.Bonnie, in Seattle>> Now that the temperatures are warming up and humidities are climbing > here in the Great Plains, I'm seeking ways to deal with waterretention. > I take extra Lasix, but replacing fluids lost due to perspiration > presents a problem with controlling the "sponging" effect due to CHF. > Besides swelled ankles and hands, I can also tell that I'm retaining > fluid as I'm more short of breath.> > I want to get out and about, but the heat and humidity make me ill.> > How do you folks in the southern states survive!!> > Sweating it out in Nebraska.> > Dan Staehr>
Guest guest
It could very well be. My skin was very itchy and the Cardio said I was allergic and switched to another drug that was taken off the market (Edecrin?) Then to Spironolactone. I would talk to your cardio. ~guin Re: Re: Dealing with water retention and summer heat and humidity In a message dated 6/11/2008 12:29:44 P.M. Guest guest
i am on spironolactone and lasix (40mg) and still can't deal with the heat. i guess living in florida, the humidity probably just infuses your pores anyway, so i just stay in a/c as much as possible. reading and lots of movies does the trick. today it only got up to 90, it was almost like a winter day ...........lol evie Re: Re: Dealing with water retention and summer heat and humidity I too am only on Spironolactone.
