Guest guest
All I've been on CR about 3 years. My blood tests in December revealed cholesterol to diminish from 127 in 2005 to 100 in 2006. My triglycerides are at 61, HDL 50, VLDL 12. My LDL diminished from 59 in 2005 to 38 in 2006. Blood pressure 122/60. Weight 131. Age 50. Height 5' 9 1/2 " BMI 19.5. My protein: fat:carbohydrate ratio is (25:30:45). My usual caloric goal is no greater than 1800 calories per day and the base for a person my age and height I estimate at 2200. My daily protein intake is about 123g. I consider that I practice about 20% calorie restriction, but please don't hold me to that number - it is my own estimate. My diet is primarily vegan. I consume a lot of nuts and some fiber supplements (guar gum). I supplement my diet with the vitamins and minerals recommended for vegetarians. Tony Zamora helped me understand the reason why my cholesterol diminished in 2006 and the LDL is so low. This is a summary of his analysis: My diet doesn't have sources of saturated fats, most of the fats are either monounsaturated or polyunsaturated, and it is cholesterol free because of being vegan. The diet is high in soluble fiber, which reduces cholesterol. In 2006 I increased my protein intake, following Tony's advice for vegetarians, resulting in lower carbohytrate percentage. High carbo diets tend to increase cholesterol. My sample menu for a typical weekday's meal is: Breakfast 8 oz grapefruit and orange juice 100 cal 30 g nuts (walnuts, pecans, 2 Brazil Nuts, filiberts) 175 cal ..33 cup granola (Galaxy Granola - Not Sweet Vanilla Mulch) 200 cal 123 g raspberries or blueberries or strawberries 65 cal Chocolate Guar Gum Pudding with 30g Brewer's yeast 160cal Subtotal : 700 cal Snack 2 triangular pieces of Dean's MegaLeather 60 cal (a vegetarian dehydrated jerkey with kale/sweet potato/ mushrooms/strawberries/spinach) Coffee with soy creamer 10 cal Subtotal: 70 cal Lunch 125 g Sprouted Lentil Hummus 130 cal 75 g Sweet Potato Hummus 120 cal 1 Tbl Commercially Prepared Hummus 25 cal 1 Tbl Commercially Prepared Babaganoush 25 cal 1 Tbl Tomato Basil Tofu Spread 25 cal 1 Green Cracker (from www.lydiasorganics.com) 50cal 1 - 3 " x 4 " flaxseed cracker 55 cal 3/4 recipe Chocolate Guar Gum Pudding 120 cal Subtotal: 550 cal Snack Tea 1/2 Megamuffins (Soy milk substituted for milk) 70 cal Subtotal 70 cal Dinner 8oz organic vegetable soup (www.imaginefoods.com) 90cal 1 tbl Brewer's Yeast 60 cal 1/3 cup frozen cherries, w. 1/4 cup oat milk 50 cal, w.1 oz protein powder 95 cal Subtotal 285 cal Total cal: 1675 cal Cheers Arturo
