Booster Seat Giveaway at The Children's Museum of Cleveland Museum Partners with Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, Kohl's Cares for Kids and SpeedMeetsArt to Keep Children Safe in Booster Seats University Circle - September 20, 2009 - When Ohio's new booster seat law takes effect on October 7, children who have outgrown car seats but are under 8 years old and less than 4'9" tall will be required to use booster seats whenever they travel in motor vehicles. To help local families get in compliance before the law takes effect, Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, Safe Kids Greater Cleveland and Kohl's Cares for Kids are joining with The Children's Museum of Cleveland to provide 100 free booster seats for children too big for car seats but too small for seat belts alone on Sunday, October 4, 2009, between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. (Paid Museum admission required; boosters provided while supplies last to age/height-appropriate children.) As an added bonus, families can learn about the steps taken to keep race car drivers safe as SpeedMeetsArt has arranged for the SuperModified and Modified stock cars of local drivers Mark "The Flyin' RN" , Rich Reid and '08 Track Champion Matt Marlowe to visit the Museum. In addition to the unique opportunity to see these machines up close, souvenirs such as one-of-a-kind collectable and custom racing art and t-shirts will be available for purchase. With Ohio's new booster seat law taking effect on October 7, 2009, many parents have questions about how their children should travel after they have outgrown car seats. Museum visitors can take part in Rainbow's Boost Your Booty activity station, created through a grant from Kohl's Cares for Kids, to get expert advice and have all their questions about the new law answered. Seat belts are made for adults and do not fit properly on young bodies, which can lead to abdominal and spinal injuries in a crash. Until kids are tall enough or old enough to get a good seat belt fit, booster seats lift kids up so seat belts fit properly. The Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital Injury Prevention Center, lead agency for the Greater Cleveland Safe Kids/Safe Communities Coalition, works with communities, children, and families through education and outreach to decrease injury risk and improve wellbeing. The Kohl's Safe Rides for All Kids program at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital is a multifaceted effort to increase restraint use for children of every age by reaching kids and parents where they live, work, and play. Kohl's, based in Menomenee Falls, Wisconsin, supports the Safe Rides for All Kids through the Kohl's Cares for Kids program, which raises funds for children's health and educational opportunities through the sale of special gift items. Kohl's community outreach also includes Kohl's Kids Who Care, an annual youth volunteer recognition program, as well as an associate program to encourage volunteerism. SpeedMeetsArt.com was founded in 2008 in Cleveland, Ohio by Chad Hanobik. Artists use the latest cutting edge technology to digitize, enhance, and blaze photos into custom art on Metallic Paper. Offering a variety of hands-on, family-oriented exhibits and programming, The Children's Museum of Cleveland is 'the' Northeast Ohio destination and resource for all young children, parents and caregivers to engage in fun, innovative, interactive play that accelerates the child's creativity, development and education.
