Concern over rise in HIV-positive cases in Barak valley districts

SILCHAR, July 29– Under the auspices of Health department and in

collaboration with the Bagpur Atabun Nessa Trust, Bagpur Yuva Sangha

Club and Education Development Society, a family health awareness

camp was recently held at Bagpur LP School in Lakhipur sub-division

of Cachar district.

Speaking in the camp as resource person, the sub-divisional health &

medical officer Dr Samir Das explained the causes of the spread of

the dreaded disease AIDS. He urged the people to restrain from the

practice of unprotected sexual intercourse with unknown partner.

According to him, the HIV-positive cases are increasing remarkably

in Barak valley districts and cautioned the people of Lakhipur sub-

division in this regard as it has the border with Manipur. He said

that the prevention is the only care of this fatal disease and urged

the people to take blood after proper testing. He also urged the

young people to come to the health centre if they suspect the

symptom of sexually transmitted diseases without hesitation.

The camp was also addressed by Rahim Uddin, Yunud Ali Choudhury,

Anarul Haque Choudhury, Anjali Suklavaidya, Jyotsna Begum, Kuijamoni

Singha among others. Large number of people of the locality attended

this day-long camp.
